GADVASU Takes Strict Anti-Ragging Measures

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has issued necessary instructions to its Deans/Directors in order to prohibit and eliminate the scourge of ragging. Registrar, GADVASU Dr. P.D. Juyal informed that all the constituent colleges of the University have made Anti-ragging Committees and Anti-ragging Squads as desired by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. GADVASU is strictly following the preventive measures for Anti-ragging outlined by the University Grants Commission. The colleges have also undertaken other forms of campaign as it may consider appropriate for prevention of ragging. All the wardens of the Girls and Boys Hostels have been directed to ensure that an affidavit must be obtained from every student, parent/guardian separately to desist from ragging and for punishment to the defaulters. The fresh students will be coming from 1st August, 2014.
Dr. S.P.S. Sangha, DSW-cum-Estate Officer, GADVASU stated that the University has uploaded the film on anti-ragging which will be shortly available on its website. The University Authorities have also stated that any violation of the above rules or if any college fails to take adequate steps to prevent ragging or not act in accordance with these regulations or fails to punish perpetrators of incidents of ragging suitably, UGC can call for action against erring colleges/institutions. Student in distress owing to ragging related incidents can access the telephone numbers displayed on the hostel and college notice boards. Anti-ragging posters and charts have been displayed at different places of students gathering. He said that the Punjab Government has also stressed to prevent ragging through the implementation of Punjab Education Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2013 (Punjab Act No. 22 of 2013).
