World Asthma Day/ Health camp for Traffic Police

Medical Camp organized to Detect Respiratory Issues

Traffic police personnel have the unenviable task of standing at busy junctions and regulating vehicular movement. The occupational hazard they face is constant exposure to polluted air. It results in rise in allergic respiratory problems, including Asthma and Chronic Bronchitis.
In a first of a kind initiative by any hospital for the welfare of city’s traffic police field staff, Fortis hospital Ludhiana under the supervision of Dr. Amit Gupta, consultant pulmonologist, held a pulmonary function test check up camp at Fortis Medcentre, Ferozepur road, to address the most critical problems related to breathing faced by the traffic police personnel.
Dr Amit Gupta and his team carried out the screening test followed by consultation for traffic police personnel at Fortis Medcentre Ludhiana. Dr Amit Gupta Said chronic exposure to vehicular pollution/dust leads to significant decrease in “lung functions “depending on amount and duration of exposure.
Also Speaking on the occasion, Mr Vivan Singh Gill, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana said that they are committed towards taking up various causes related to good health awareness in the city and for traffic police, various programmes with the support of traffic Police,  like first aid training and basic life support are already underway, breathing masks were also distributed to traffic police field staff during this event.

Fortis hospital plans to run “Smoking cessation and Asthma Clinics at hospital premises from next week.

Also present on the occasion were Dr.Harpreet Brar, Admin Head, Dr.Ankush Mehta, Medical Superintendent, Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana, Dr.Richa Agnihotri, ACP traffic Police.
