Three Positive cases reported in Ludhiana in last 24 hours

ICMR team does random sampling in District

Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal today informed that two new positive cases have been reported in district Ludhiana in last 24 hours. He informed that till date, a total of 6143 samples have been taken, out of which report of 5968 has been received, report of 5701 samples is negative and report of 175 samples is pending.

He said that now, the total number of patients related to Ludhiana is 181, while 86 patients are related to other districts/states. He said that unfortunately 7 people from Ludhiana and 5 from other districts have lost their lives. He said that 139 patients related to district Ludhiana have been discharged from hospital after treatment.

He informed that out of the total three positive cases reported in last 24 hours include a husband-wife duo, residents of village Khanpur near Dehlon. Both of them had returned from West Bengal on May 23, 2020, a 50 years Male, who works as Security Staff in Air India and is a Permanent Resident of Delhi. He had come back from Delhi on May 25, 2020 by domestic flight at Sahnewal Airport. The report of other 10 passengers is negative.

He informed that till date, 6312 persons have been kept under home quarantine in the district and at present, the number of such persons is 2031. Today, 68 persons were sent for home quarantine.

He said that whenever District Administration and Health Department Ludhiana finds out that about any positive or suspected COVID 19 person, their samples are immediately sent for testing. Similarly, 116 samples of suspected patients were sent for testing today and their results are expected shortly.

He appealed to the residents to follow all directions of the Punjab government and if they would stay indoors, they would not only stay safe themselves, but would also contribute in keeping everyone around safe.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) team from Delhi under the guidance of Mr Balbir Singh Sidhu, Health Minister, Punjab, visited various areas of the district. Blood samples were taken at random to check the level of immunity against COVID.

Giving information in this regard, Civil Surgeon Ludhiana Dr. Rajesh Kumar Bagga said that today ICMR team from Delhi visited village Baddowal under block Sudhar, Majri village under Sidhwan Bet, Doraha under Payal, Ghungrali village under Manupur, Sham Nagar area in the city and random samples of people's blood have been taken for testing. He said that the main purpose of taking samples is to check the level of immunity of the people against COVID.

Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta on Sunday visited Ludhiana Commissionerate to take stock of the ground situation in the district and review the arrangements made by the police to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

The DGP also paid tributes to the first Punjab Police Corona martyr ACP Anil Kohli, a frontline Covid worker who died on April 18. He attended the Bhog ceremony of Kohli and expressed profound grief and solidarity with the bereaved family. He also handed over an appointment letter to Paras Kohli s/o Anil Kohli and a cheque for financial assistance to deceased officer’s wife, Palak Kohli. Prominent among those present on the occasion also included Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu, MLAs Mr Rakesh Pandey and Mr Surinder Dawar, Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal, Commissioner of Police Mr Rakesh Kumar Agrawal, besides several others.

Due to ongoing Covid-19, restrictions, more than 20000 people and police officers from across the state  joined the Bhog Ceremony through live telecast on the internet.

These included ADGPs, IG/DIGs and all SSPs of the state.

Earlier, chairing a meeting of senior police officers of Ludhiana Police at Police Lines, Gupta assessed the prevailing situation and the measures taken for strict enforcement of Covid guidelines. He directed the officers to intensify the enforcement of curfew and Covid guidelines.

Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal informed the DGP that district police had been strictly implementing the COVID restrictions and was dealing firmly with curfew violators. The district police had registered 426 FIRs for various curfew related offences and arrested 732 violators. A total of 14,806 persons had been taken to Open Jails, while 7088 traffic challans had been issued in the city against those going around in vehicles without any valid reasons, with 1265 vehicles being impounded.

The CP further informed the meeting that since Ludhiana is an industrial hub, which had lakhs of migrant labourers from across the country, the police had also accepted the tough challenge of serving them and other needy persons cooked food. As many as 57,85,793 persons had been served food and 39,837 food kits had been distributed among the needy during this period.

Agrawal further revealed that 20, 000 migrants had returned to their home districts through Shramik Express Special Trains in last 5 days. He also pointed out that several factories had already restarted operations in Ludhiana, and a large number of labourers had joined work. Besides, 57 Shelter Homes had been set up and around 800 migrants were residing there, with free food and stay being provided by the administration.

In the maintenance of law and order in Ludhiana city, 2020 volunteers were helping police, and their role was being highly appreciated by the people, the meeting was informed. The general public is also rendering commendable services amid COVID-19, with 276 villages and 1077 mohallas being sealed voluntarily by the people.

The Commissioner of Police further apprised the DGP that the police force on duty was being served cooked food twice a day, along with regular supply of potable water. To boost immunity of the workforce, Vitamin-B, Vitamin-C tablets, Vitamin-D, Zinc tablets, Giloy Ghanvati tablets, Homeopathic medicine Arsenic album 30 had been distributed. About one lac masks, 90,000 gloves, 50,000 bottles of sanitizers, 1700 face shields & Goggles and 564 PPE kits had also been provided to protect the frontline police personnel. As many as 12 Quarantine Centers with capacity of 478 Beds at different locations in the Commissionerate, Ludhiana, had been established exclusively for the police personnel.  Many Police jawans shared with the DGP that they had already taken HCQ as a prophylactic.

While appreciating the work done by Ludhiana Police, the DGP underlined the need to further intensify the efforts to ensure strict compliance of lockdown/curfew restrictions amid COVID-19. The DGP also interacted with the police officers across ranks, deployed at various chowks of Ludhiana. Noticing some violations of the ban on pillion riding on two-wheelers, Gupta directed the police personnel to strictly enforce the ban to ensure proper social distancing. He also asked the CP Ludhiana to run special campaigns on electronic as well as social media to educate the people about this.

The DGP also interacted with the volunteers deployed at Bharat Nagar Chowk and commended them for working with utmost sincerity & dedication for the nearly past two months without any remuneration. ACP Traffic Gurdev Singh, who is mobilising & coordinating the entire volunteer effort in Ludhiana, informed the DGP that more than 9000 volunteers were deployed with the Ludhiana Police and doing an excellent job in service towards society.

The DGP also inspected a Mobile Medical Van with the doctor, which has been detailed to carry out medical screening of cops deployed at various points in the city. He also motivated the doctor on duty and the police officers to use the Pulse Oxymeter, especially for police personnel & their families, to check for any flu like symptoms.

To boost the morale of the police force and to recognise work done by frontline men and women, Gupta presented the ‘DGP’s Honour for Exemplary Seva to Society Certificates’ to 11 personnel, including an IPS officer ADCP (Headquarters) Deepak Pareek, who is the Nodal Officer for Covid-19 in Police Commissionerate, Ludhiana. SHO Focal Point Insp Mohd Jameel, Constable Sanjeev Kumar and Ajaib Singh were also honoured for their outstanding services in the battle against Coronavirus.

Ludhiana:SHO of Basti Jodhewal, Ludhiana- Arshpreet Kaur, admitted in DMCH due to COVID-19 infection got discharged today after 14 days of hospitalization in DMCH. On her discharge from the hospital, senior police officials of Ludhiana Police Commissionerate  were present on the occasion and facilitated the officer for getting back to normal well being.

Secretary of DMCH Managing Society- Sh Prem Kumar Gupta congratulated SHO Arhspreet Kaur in fighting her battle against COVID 19 infection. He lauded the effective teamwork of doctors, nursing and paramedical staff of DMCH in successfully treating the patient. Mr Gupta specially emphasized the contribution of Departments of emergency Medicine, Microbiology and Critical Care Medicine in treating patients infected with COVID 19 infection  

Professor of Medicine-Dr Rajesh Mahajan said that the patient Arshpreet Kaur had tested negative on two occasions and got successfully discharged in healthy condition today.

Dean Academcis Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina said that DMCH,under the guidance of Secretary Sh Prem Kumar Gupta is fully equipped to tackle the present situation of COVID 19 pandemic and all faculty and staff members are taking all the due precautions in creating awareness and leaving no stone unturned n winning war against COVID-19. 

Education: Summer vacation from May 15 to June 15

The Punjab Government has decided to declare summer vacation in Government Colleges and Universities of the state from May 15 to June 15.

Disclosing this here today the Minister for Higher Education and Languages Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that as per the information received from the universities and colleges about 80% of the syllabus of the current semester/class has been completed. The teachers are helping the students in every possible way to complete the remaining syllabus.

He said that as per the guidelines of the Lakhanpal Committee constituted by the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh to come out of the lockdown and University Grants Commission, the examinations of University and College students could be conducted from July 1. It was also agreed in a meeting with the Vice Chancellors of the universities on these guidelines that the next academic session would start in September.

Mr. Bajwa said that in view of the above circumstances it was felt that summer vacations in universities and colleges should be announced during these days so that after the holidays the teachers would come fully refreshed to work on examinations and new admissions. He said that the proposal sent by the department for declaring holidays has been approved by the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh.

The Higher Education Minister said that the orders of the government regarding summer vacations would reach the universities today.

Politicians should rise above party lines-Ravneet Bittu

 Everone should come forward to support everyone

Ludhiana MP Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu today said that in view of COVID 19 pandemic, the politicians should rise above party lines and should come forward to support everyone around them. He said this while speaking to media persons at the Isolation Centre set up at Meritorious School, here today. He was also accompanied by Mayor Mr Balkar Singh Sandhu, MC Councillors Mrs Mamta Ashu, Mr Sunny Bhalla and Mr Jai Parkash Sharma, besides others.

On this occasion, they distributed necessary items amongst the people staying in this isolation centre, here. Mrs Mamta Ashu donated 5000 packets of biscuits along with 50 PPE kits. Earlier, Mrs Mamta Ashu has donated 250 PPE kits along with other items for the people staying here.

Mr Bittu said that there is no shortage of funds when it comes to providing best healthcare to the residents. He informed that on the basis of demand provided by District Administration, medical equipment worth Rs 1 crore has already been provided to the health department out of his MPLAD funds.

Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu said that due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic, he had asked the health department officials to provide list of medical equipment required to fight this pandemic. He informed that when the list was submitted, he immediately released Rs 1 crore from MPLAD funds for this purpose.

Mr Bittu said that he has offered more funds if the health department wants to purchase additional equipment. He assured that there is no shortage of funds and hailed the doctors and health department officials who have been on the forefront in fight against COVID 19.
