Advanced Eye Centre PGIMER Chandigarh remained active and alert during this Diwali also. PGI staff saved many injured persons by providing the quick medical help and required services. In view of the Diwali Festival and anticipation of many emergencies due to cracker injuries, the Advanced Eye Centre, PGIMER has made an elaborate arrangement to meet and provide immediate treatment to the patients reporting to the PGIMER. 13th November 2023 at 18:07

The department has doctors and staffs on special emergency duty round the clock at the Advance Eye Centre PGIMER, Chandigarh from the morning of 11-11-2023 to 14-11-2023 (8 am) to attend the patients on arrival. 

A total of 23 patients came to the Advanced Eye Centre on 11-11-2023  (8 AM) to 13-11-2023 (8 AM) with alleged history of fire crackers injuries in 48 hours. There were 18 males and 5 females, of theses 10 were age 14 years and the youngest being 6 years old. There were 14 patients from Tricity (Chandigarh-10 Mohali 1 and PKL- 2) and rest from the neighboring states of Punjab (3), Haryana (6), Himachal Pradesh (2). Thirteen patients were bystanders and rest 10 were bursting crackers themselves. 

Out of 23 patients 7 eyes have open globe injuries and needed emergency surgeries. 16 had closed globe injuries and 13 of these have serious injuries.  Rest 3 out of 23 have either minor injuries or skin injuries and were managed conservatively. We have comparative data of previous 3 years and we feel it was comparatively lesser cases in this Diwali 2023.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday formally launched the recently announced Dr. BR Ambedkar Post Matric SC Scholarship scheme, and also virtually laid the foundation stone of Rs. 50 crore worth of projects at Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal (Ram Tirath), Amritsar, to mark the auspicious occasion of the Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti.

Participating in the Valmiki Jayanti celebrations here, the Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated a new Ram Tirath ITI, while give the go-ahead for the establishment of a Skill Development Centre to prepare Dalit students for competitive exams. In addition, he announced an annual holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act in remembrance of the great personality, and said that GNDU, Amritsar, will organise an Annual Seminar on Bhagwan Valmiki on the eve of his Birth Anniversary every year.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister distributed Post Matric SC Scholarship Certificates to SC students and congratulated the Valmiki Samaj for various schemes launched by the Technical Education and other Departments for the Dalit community in the state. His government was committed to the welfare of the community, he added.

The Chief Minister said the state scholarship scheme will ensure that poor SC students get free higher education, which the Government of India had unfairly deprived them of with its abrupt withdrawal of central aid of Rs. 800 crore to the state. The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Post Matric SC Scholarship, being launched without any financial contribution from the Centre, will provide 100% fee waiver for SC students to give them net savings of about Rs. 550 crore, he said.

The scheme, which will benefit more than 3 lakh poor SC students every year, will involve no upfront payment by these students to government/private educational institutions. The institutes will provide free education to SC students under the scheme against direct subsidy from the state government, the Chief Minister announced, adding that the students will also get monthly stipend to buy books, uniforms etc.

Giving details of the Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal projects, the Chief Minister said these include a Panorama on Maharishi Valmiki (Rs. 25-30 crore), Facade Lights (Rs. 10.9 crore), Filtration Plant in the Sarovar (Rs. 4.75 crore), Furniture for the Sarai (Rs. 2 crore) and Construction of a Parikrama (Rs. 1.3 crore).

Virtually inaugurating the temporary campus of the ITI at Ram Tirath, Captain Amarinder said the institute will contribute to generating more jobs for youngsters. Around 90 trainees had so far been admitted to the institute, he announced, adding that the student strength will be raised to 240 by next year when the building will be renovated at a cost of Rs. 1.82 crore and machinery worth Rs. 3.5 crore will be procured. The number of courses will also be increased year from the current four to nine, he added.

Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said the institute will be developed as a state-of-the-art facility.

Earlier, MLA and Warehousing Corporation Chairman Raj Kumar Verka castigated the Centre for stopping the Post Matric SC scholarships and thanked the Chief Minister for starting a new state scheme to compensate the students for the loss. Verka presented a specially created short film on the Valmiki Samaj on the occasion.

Several leading representatives of the Valmiki Sant Samaj were present at the celebration.

Road renamed as “Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Marg

Punjab PWD and School Education Minister Mr Vijay Inder Singla today inaugurated the Ludhiana-Pakhowal Road, that has been renamed as “Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Marg”. This 38-km road starts from Bhai Wala Chowk in Ludhiana City and ends at Raikot town. He was also accompanied by Senior Congress leader Capt Sandeep Singh Sandhu, Gill MLA Mr Kuldip Singh Vaid, besides several others. 

While speaking to media persons on the occasion, Mr Singla said that this road passes through village Sarabha, which is the ancestral village of Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, the great martyr of our freedom struggle. He said that it was a long demand of the area residents that this road should be renamed as “Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Marg”.

He said that a notification in this regard was issued by the Capt Amarinder Singh led Punjab government and keeping in mind the historical importance of village Sarabha, the road has now been renamed as “Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Marg”. He also thanked Senior Congress leader Capt Sandeep Singh Sandhu for taking up this issue with the Chief Minister Punjab, after which this decision was taken.

While replying to a query related to renaming of upcoming international airport at Halwara as “Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha International Airport”, Mr Singla said that the Punjab government is also considering this demand and would request Capt Amarinder Singh to take up this issue with the Union government. He also paid floral tributes at the statue of Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha in the main chowk of village Sarabha. He also visited the memorial constructed in the village as well as the ancestral house of the great martyr.

He informed that the roads in and around the Dakha constituency have been repaired with a cost of Rs 58 crore. He said that the development works related to repair of roads worth Rs 34 crore have already been completed, works worth Rs 12 crore are underway while works worth around Rs 12 crore would be started shortly. He said that some of the roads that were not even repaired during the tenure of previous SAD-BJP government have been repaired now. He assured that the Capt Amarinder Singh led Punjab government is committed for providing best road infrastructure to the residents.

He also informed that the Punjab government has advertised 4500 posts of teachers for government schools, while advertisement for additional 4500 posts would be advertised shortly. He also said that the matter related to charging of fee by private schools during and after lockdown period is in Punjab & Haryana High Court and a decision in this regard is likely to come tomorrow. He assured that the Punjab government is committed to safeguard the rights of both parents as well as private schools, but would not let the schools to charge unnecessarily to the parents.

Later, the Cabinet Minister inaugurated the Raikot-Jagraon Road that has been repaired with a cost of around Rs 14 crore. He informed that this road was never repaired after year 2012 and the previous government ignored it for reasons best known to them. He said that the 2.77 km road from village Akhara bridge to Jagraon city have been widened from 7 metres to 10 metres. On this occasion, he also announced that the Akhara bridge would be repaired and widened with a cost of Rs 5.5 crore.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Jagraon MLA Mrs Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, District Planning Board Chairman Mr Malkit Singh Dakha, PSIDC Chairman Mr KK Bawa, Mr Karanjit Singh Soni Galib, PEDA vice chairman Mr Karan Warring, Mr Gurdev Singh Lapran, besides several others.

Ludhiana Police on Special Drive against illicit liquor

Cracking a whip on illicit liquor trading and smuggling Ludhiana Police seized and destroyed more than 2 Lakh Liters of Lahan (Kacchi Daru) on the banks of Satluj River on Ludhiana-Jalndhar border. Some wine contractors who are indulging in liquor smuggling in each other’s areas are also on police radar.
Police has launched a Special Drive about 20 days back to take strict action against all kinds of Liquor Smuggling, bootlegging and illicit distillation of liquor in Ludhiana as part of state wide directive from DGP Punjab.  For this purpose anAnti SmugglingCell has been constituted with dedicated manpower of 30 persons. A close co-ordination is also being made with the Excise Departmentto stop smuggling of bootlegging and smuggling of liquor.
Ludhiana Commissionerate Police has also effectively cracked down on the liquor smugglers and in last 20 days heavy quantity of licit and illicit liquor has been recovered. During this period 150FIRs have been registered under Excise Act and 171 smugglers have been sent behind bars with recoveryof 3266 Liters bottles of illicit liquor, 650 Liters of English Wine. Besides this2Working Stillsfrom which illicit liquor was being distilled after fermentation were also seized. Most of the known liquor smugglers have either been caught or have shifted from Ludhiana to other districts temporarily.
Police has also made lists of the known liquor smuggles who are again and again engaging in the illicit trade  of Liquor Smuggling and  bootlegging and have started to keep a strict watch on their activities.
Activities of these smugglers are also being monitored through the Safe City Camerasinstalled in the district. Special inter-District Nakas have been put in the Commissionerate, Ludhiana round the clock to monitor inter-district smuggling of liquor.
RakeshAgrawal CP Ludhianahas told his officers that strict action will be taken if any police person is found negligent or supporting any illegal activities in any manner relating to smuggling of liquor.

Door-To-Door Home Delivery of Essentials Starts

In view of Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19), the door to door delivery of essential commodities have started in district Ludhiana. For this purpose, the suppliers would strictly have to take necessary permission for the district administration in advance. The suppliers of essential commodities are being given temporary permissions, besides helpline numbers 0161-2401347, 9464696757 have also been issued.
While providing information, Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal have informed that to ensure that the door-to-door delivery of essential commodities starts in the district, a list of 674 kiryana shops, medicine shops, LGP, green fodder for animals etc have been uploaded on websites, www.ludhiana.nic.in and http://main.mcludhiana.gov.in. The District Administration is taking help of best price shops, Swiggy, Zomoto and other online companies and they will also be supplying grocery items door to door. But when they reach in any locality, people should not crowd the vendor vehicle and should wait for it to come to their home. They should maintain the distancing norm of 5 feet while making purchase from them. All of them must wear mask and only one person should come out of the home to purchase from the cart. Try to make payment online as far as possible.
The list of medicine shops have also been uploaded on the above mentioned websites. The work of issuing curfew passes to medicine shop owners have been given to Zonal Licensing Authority (98720-08040).
He further informed that orders for keeping petrol pumps open in the district have also been issued, but only three persons would be able to work at a given time there. The supply of LPG cylinders and vegetables through street venders is also going on. The milk men are supplying milk to the residents without any problem during both morning and evening time. The authorities of Verka Milk Plant have already been directed to ensure uninterrupted supply of milk.
He stated that for issuing various permissions, the Municipal Corporation have formed 95 ward wise teams, that are issuing permissions to the residents. Similarly, the SDMs are giving these permissions in sub divisions.
For taking permission in this regard, the suppliers would have to submit their details such as name, firm name, address, email ID, mobile number (having WhatsApp account), proof of reason, timing for which permission is required at district administration’s email ID “curfewpermission@gmail.com" or on WhatsApp number 93572-00786. The delivery of commodities would be allowed only after getting proper permission.
Besides this, all vehicles of government departments, vehicles ferrying milk, vehicles ferrying food grain, vehicles ferrying vegetables, bread vehicles, vehicles of LPG supply, vehicles supplying diesel/petrol, vehicles carrying green fodder, have been allowed to operate during curfew. He also stated that these vehicles should not have more than three persons, should have a hand sanitiser in it, and every person should be wearing a mask.
Mr Agrawal further informed that officials of PSPCL, PSTCL, BSNL and other telecom services, sanitation workers of Municipal Corporation and Verka Milk plant Ludhiana having official identity cards (on the production of official identity card) are exempted from the orders passed related to curfew.
However milk, vegetables and other essential goods will be supplied to them at their home door to door by milkman, vendors and rehris etc. General public is not allowed to come out of their homes during curfew. If anybody requires any pass to move in the curfew he should apply in the DC or Commissioner of Police offices online.
However Doctors & other Hospital Staff of Govt and Private Hospitals, Electricity and water supply Department Employees, Municipal Corporation Staff, ATMs/Banks, Private Security Guards going to duty in uniform, Patients having Medical Emergency cases, Telecom Company Employees on duty during office hours, All types of Goods/Fodder/Supplies carrying vehicles including Interstate goods vehicles, petrol Pumps  (06:00 AM to 08:00 PM), Hawkers of Recognised News papers (05:00 AM to 08:00 AM), LPG delivery vehicles for door to door supply (06:00 AM to 08:00 PM), Milk Plant vehicles and their Employees on duty can come out without passes during curfew but some ID card of the Individual is mandatory.
Following category of persons will require passes to move in the curfew but till the time passes are made they can move without passes. Milkmen  with milk cans (06:00 AM to 09:00 AM & 05:00 PM to 08:00 PM), Rehris/carts/vans used for Door to door supply of Vegetables & Fruits  (06:00 AM to 08:00 PM), Door to door Medicines delivery (06:00 AM to 08:00 PM), Door to door delivery of Breads/Grocery Goods (06:00 AM to 08:00 PM), Factories making essential food products, Media persons with ID cards, Wholesale Sabzi Mandi  (3 AM to 2 PM) to enable rehri persons to buy from them and sale vegetables door to door to public, Wholesale Karyana Store (06:00 AM to 08:00 PM) to take online orders and supply door to door, Employees of Flour Mills and bread companies.
All others will require prior permission from DC Ludhiana or CP Ludhiana or Commissioner Municipal Corporation Ludhiana or SSPs of Ludhiana (Rural) and Khanna to operate in curfew. One can apply online at curfewpermission@gmail.com and passes will be sent online after approval. During the Door to door supply of items, the person should wear masks and use soap or hand sanitisers to clean the hands after every house, whereas the person coming out of the house to buy should also wear masks.
The District Administration has assured that there will be no shortage of essential supplies.
One Patient tests Positive:
The Deputy Commissioner further said that out of total 45 suspected patients in the district, only one have tested positive, while report of one patient is pending till date.

Curfew Relaxation Starts From 25th March Wednesday

To ensure that Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19) does not spread in the district, District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal, while exercising his powers under section 144 of CrPC have ordered curfew in district Ludhiana from 2 pm onwards today, i.e. March 23, 2020 till further orders.

The District Magistrate had decided to give three hour relaxation to public (from 6 am to 9 am) for buying necessary items/essential commodities, but as Chandigarh Administration is observing complete curfew on March 24, 2020, so now the relaxations in curfew would be applicable only from MARCH 25, 2020 (WEDNESDAY) ONWARDS.

Mr Agrawal has informed that it was earlier decided to give these relaxations from March 24, 2020, but as complete curfew has been imposed in Chandigarh on March 24, 2020, it was been decided that the relaxations in curfew in district Ludhiana would be applicable only from March 25, 2020 onwards.

He clarified that on March 24, 2020, no person would be allowed to come out of their houses and complete curfew would be observed. He again clarified that the relaxations in curfew in district Ludhiana would be applicable only from March 25, 2020 onward only. He has requested the residents of district Ludhiana to follow the curfew strictly.

National Consumer Day in Ludhiana on December 24

On the occasion of National Consumer Day, a state-level function would be organised by the Punjab government in the Dr Manmohan Singh Auditorium of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana on December 24, 2019. Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu would be the chief guest on the occasion.

Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department Director Mrs Anindita Mitra today visited the city and took stock of the ongoing arrangements. She was also accompanied by MC Councillor Mrs Mamta Ashu.

While providing information, Mrs Anindita Mitra informed that this function is being organised by the Punjab government for creating awareness amongst the consumers of Punjab state about their rights as well as about Consumer Protection Act 2019. She informed that a large number of consumers have been invited for this programme.

Mrs Mitra informed that the function would start at 10 am on December 24, 2019, and the subject experts would educate the masses about their rights under the Consumer Protection Act 2019. She informed that this programme would be presided over by Mr KAP Sinha, Secretary, Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department.

While taking stock of the arrangements, Mrs Mitra asked all the concerned officials to ensure that this function is successful. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Deputy Director Miss Sona Thind, DFSC’s Mr Sukhwinder Singh and Mrs Geeta Bishambu, DPRO Mr Prabhdeep Singh Nathowal, besides several others.

Multi Product Mega Food Park is the gift of the Prime Minister

           Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Punjab Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal today laid the foundation stone of Mega Food Park at village Ladhowal, near here. This is the first of its kind Mega Food Park of the state, which is being developed by the Punjab Agro Industries Corporation of the Punjab government.
While speaking on the occasion, Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal suggested that this project be named as "Gurkirpal Mega Food Park" because the speed at which Punjab has witnessed all-round record development is due to the "Kirpa" of our "Guru". She said that this Multi Product Mega Food Park is the gift of the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi to Punjab and will give benefit to farmers and processors of Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Jalandhar, Moga, Sangrur and Barnala districts of the state.
Mrs Badal informed that this Mega Food Park will be set up with the project cost of Rs 117.61 crore in an area of 100.20 acres. The park will have facilities of 500 kg/Spiral Freezer, 1000 MT Cold Store of Onion and Garlic, 1000 MT Frozen cold store of Vegetable produce, 10000 MT Dry Warehouse, 10000 MT Silos, 100 MT Ripening Chamber (ECRC), 1 MT/Hr Dehydration Line (Air dried), 400 MT Cold Storage, Reefer Vans, Food Incubation Center (ICRESAT) and Testing Laboratory.
While providing further information, Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that in order to give an impetus to the growth of the Food Processing Sector in Punjab, Ministry has approved three Mega Food Parks in the state. Out of these three, first Mega Food Park at Fazilka has already become operational, the foundation stone of a second Mega Food Park promoted by Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Ltd was laid today and the third Mega Food Park (M/s Sukhjit Mega Food Park) has been approved by the Ministry in Kapurthala District, the foundation stone of which would be laid next month.
           She further stated that under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi, Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries is focusing on boosting the Food Processing Industry so that agriculture sector grows exponentially and becomes the engine of growth to drive the “Make in India” initiative of the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Ministry of Food Processing Industries has identified creation of modern infrastructure for food processing as a focus area and is encouraging private investment. As a step in this direction, Ministry of Food Processing Industries has been implementing the Mega Food Park Scheme in the country to give a major boost to the Food Processing Sector along the value chain from the farm to the market with strong forward and backward linkages through a cluster based approach.
           Further providing information about this Mega Food Park at Ladhowal (Ludhiana), she stated that it would be treated as a central processing centre and four primary processing centres- at Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Fazilka and Bathinda would also be set up. She said that this project would not only help the farmers, but would also generate job avenues for our youth.
           While speaking on the occasion, Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal said that this Mega Food Park project will create a modern infrastructure for arresting post-harvest losses of horticultural and non-horticultural produce and provide impetus to the growth of food processing sector in Punjab. This Mega Food Park project will help in providing better prices to farmer, reduce wastage of perishables, add value to agricultural produce and create huge opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment for the youth of the state. He said that more than 40,000 farmers would be benefited from this project and more than 10,000 youth would get employment.
           Later, while speaking to media persons, Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal said that during the last 9 years, the state has witnessed record development in all fields and during the rule of Capt Amarinder Singh, there was not even a single project which the Congressmen can claim as their achievement. He said that the Congress has already conceded defeat and SAD-BJP would form government for the third time a row due to its record development. While terming Aam Aadmi Party as Anti-Punjab, he said that like the Congress, even AAP cannot boast of any of their achievements, because there is none. He also said that the formation of any political front would not have any impact on the SAD-BJP combine.
     Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti also termed this Mega Food Park as a gift for the Punjabis and said that it would boost the economy of the state. She alleged that it was due to the anti-farmer policies of the UPA government that the farmers are suffering. Agriculture Minister Mr Tota Singh also thanked the Union Government and Union Food Processing Industries Minister Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal for this project.

Mukh Mantri Tirath Darshan Yatrra Yojna

     With an aim of providing free pilgrimage for people from all sections of society, the Punjab government had started "Mukh Mantri Tirath Darshan Yatra Yojana" under which pilgrims from all parts of the state visited various places of religious importance through trains. Under this scheme, now people would be able to go on pilgrimage through buses as well.
A Jatha comprising more than 350 people from Ludhiana City, mostly women, left for the yatra of Sri Harimandir Sahib, Amritsar in seven buses early today morning. These buses were flagged off by former MLA Mr Hira Singh Gabria and other senior Akali leaders.
     It is pertinent to mention that the jatha of around 350 people from Atam Nagar and Ludhiana South constituencies would be provided all facilities totally free of cost. These pilgrims would be accompanied by government officials as well.
     While speaking to media persons, Mr Hira Singh Gabria thanked Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal for starting this scheme, which has been well received by people from all sections of the society. He said that pilgrimage by buses have been started because some people could not go on pilgrimages to far off places. And now with the help of buses plying under this scheme, these people can also pay obeisance at places of religious importance. He informed that this pilgrimage would be totally free of cost and these buses would continue plying from all constituencies on regular basis.

While claiming one sided victory for Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party coalition in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections, Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal today said that people would teach befitting lesson to both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party. He said that the people have already seen the anti-Punjab approach of the Congress party and now the Aam Aadmi Party's stand against Punjab over the river waters issue has unmasked their real face.
While speaking to media persons on the second day of his Sangat Darshan programme in Khanna constituency, the Chief Minister, while replying to a question as to which political party would pose real threat to the SAD-BJP in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections, said that their coalition would have a one sided clean sweep as people have already seen the Anti-Punjab face of both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party and that is why people have rejected them completely.
On a question related to distribution of tickets to youth for upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections, Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal said that their party has promoted many youngsters and the candidates would be chosen amongst those who could score a victory.
While replying to another question related to the Congress party claim that they would waive off debt of farmers after coming to power, Mr Badal said that the Congress party did not do anything for the welfare of farmers during their more than 50 years of rule and so the Congress leaders should not make such false claims. While terming the Congress claims as pure lies, Mr Badal said that Capt Amarinder had stopped free electricity to farmers that was given at the time of SAD-BJP government, immediately after coming back to power. While taking of steps taken by the state government for the benefit of farmers, Mr Parkash Singh Badal said that the government is currently giving a subsidy worth Rs 5000 crore for tube wells of farmers. He said that now the government is providing interest free loan up to Rs 50,000, besides free health treatment of up to Rs 50,000 to farmers. He said that there is also a provision of an insurance of Rs 5 lakh in case the head of family dies in an accident or incapacitation.
While addressing the people of different villages, Mr Parkash Singh Badal appealed them to take any political decision carefully. He appealed that they should choose only those parties which have stood by them during their testing times as one wrong decision can prove fatal for them as well as for the state.
The Chief Minister said that the Congress party has damaged the state politically, religiously as well as economically. He said that first the party ordered army attack on Shri Harimandir Sahib, which directly hit the Sikhs and later, ordered killing of innocent Sikhs in Delhi. He said that Congress even backstabbed our great leader Sant Harchand Singh Longowal. He said that it was the Congress which made the Rajiv-Longowal pact, and later, did not stand by it. He said that the Congress is still dilly-dallying the decision of transferring Chandigarh as well as Punjabi speaking areas to Punjab.
In his attack on the Aam Aadmi Party, Mr Parkash Singh Badal said that they are constantly trying to divide the society, but people would not fall prey to the evil motives. He said that the Sangat Darshan programmes are organised so that we can save both time and energy and increase people participation in development works. He said that Punjab is the only state in the country where Sangat Darshan Programmes are organised and they are organised only when people choose him to serve the state. He said that the Sangat Darshan programmes are organised so that people's grievances are redressed on the spot and the accountability of officers can be fixed.
The Chief Minister's Sangat Darshan programmes were today organised in villages Alipur, Gohn, Harion Kalan, Khatra and Majri, where he listened to grievances of more than two dozen panchayats and distributed cheques for various development works. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Chief Minister's Special Principle Secretary Dr S Karuna Raju, senior Akali leader of the area Mr Ranjit Singh Talwandi, DIG Mr S K Kalia, Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Mr Ravi Bhagat, SSP Khanna Mr Satinder Singh, Senior Akali leader Mr Iqbal Singh Channi, Mr Inderpal Singh, besides several others.

Seminar on motivating students to join Arm

A seminar to educate and motivate the students about joining the Indian Armed Forced was organised at Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students, Ludhiana today. Col Kanwarpreet Singh Brar (Retd), District Defence Services Welfare Officer, Ludhiana delivered a lecture in which more than 300 students participated.
      The students were educated about all three Indian armed forces- Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy by Col Kanwarpreet Singh Brar (Retd). He urged the students to join armed forces. He informed the audience about the salient features of the army. He spoke about the challenging life, professionalism, unit ethos, secularism and other aspects of the army. Students of the school interacted with Col Brar and asked questions related to different branches of the armed forces.
      Col Kanwarpreet Singh Brar (Retd) also informed that the Punjab government is starting Mai Bhago Armed Forced Preparatory Institute at Mohali, in which 25 girl students will be enrolled every year. He informed that the students taking admission in this institute will get free of cost education of graduation.
      Mr Anup Passi, principal, Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students, Ludhiana, said that many of their school students are interested in joining the armed forces and this particular seminar would certainly help them in choosing their career.

Hawas village will have 100 percent toilets coverage by June 10. Punjab Rural Water and Sanitation Sector Improvement Programme, which is covered under Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi's flagship Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The Punjab government will be spending more than Rs 1,100 crore for this programme, under which 6.25 lakh toilets would be constructed in the state, out of which around 26,000 would be constructed in Ludhiana district.
Mr Jaswinder Singh Chahal, Executive Engineer, Department of Water Supply and Sanitation (DWSS), Punjab informed that village Hawas on Rahon Road is the first village of Ludhiana district which has been chosen under Punjab Rural Water and Sanitation Sector Improvement Programme. He informed that this programme has been launched in the Ludhiana district with the efforts of Punjab Irrigation Minister Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon. He said that the village residents have agreed to have 100 percent toilets coverage in the village by June 10.

Mr Chahal further informed that once this programme gets completed in Hawas, another programme for solid and liquid waste management for the cleanliness of village ponds and other such purposes would be started in the village. He informed that under this particular programme, another grant of Rs 12 lakh would be granted for the development of the village.

Mr Ajmer Singh Bhagpur, chairman, Verka Milk Plant, Ludhiana, informed that the Punjab Rural Water and Sanitation Sector Improvement Programme has been launched for the betterment of village residents. Mr Bhagpur further informed that once the programme is completed at village Hawas, the village name would be recommended by the Punjab government for Nirmal Gram Award, which is given by the Government of India.

Mr Bhag Singh Maangarh, chairman, Zila Parishad, Ludhiana, informed that once the programme is completed at village Hawas, it would be started in all around 900 villages of the Ludhiana district in a phased manner. Terming that the ‘sins’ of successive Congress governments at center in more than six decades could not be washed overnight, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today said that despite of all odds the NDA government has done exemplary work in its short span of one year for ensuring the progress of country and prosperity of its people.
Interacting with the media persons after laying the foundation stone of several development projects here today, the Chief Minister, while congratulating the Prime Minister for successful completion of one year in office, lauded him for launching several pro-poor schemes within a short span of about one year.  He said that under Mr. Modi’s dynamic and visionary leadership the NDA government has launched major pro-poor schemes like Jan Dhan Yojna, Swachh Bharat, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojna, Prime Minister’s Bima Suraksha, Atal Pension and Pradhan Mantri Jeewan Jyoti Bima Yojna, which were aimed at ensuring the welfare of common man. He said that none of other government at the centre has ever initiated such pro-people schemes in a short span of one year.
The Chief Minister further said that in a short span of NDA’s rule, Punjab has been immensely benefitted from it. He said that the Union government has given several key projects to the state, which would be instrumental in putting the state further on high growth trajectory. He hailed the NDA government for allocating prestigious projects like All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Post Graduate Horticulture Research and Educational Institute.

Replying to another query, the Chief Minister reiterated the firm commitment of the state government to maintain law and order in the state at every cost. He said that sporadic incidents of law and order problem were persistent in every state and even the advanced countries like USA were also not aloof from it. However, Mr. Badal said that the state government was making every effort to ensure that law and order was not disturbed in the state.
The Chief Minister further said that the state government was committed for ensuring speedy payments of the VAT refund to the traders and industrialists. He said that the matter was under due consideration of the state government and the payments of the traders/ entrepreneurs would be made very soon.

On another query, the Chief Minister said that farmers of the state had been immensely benefitted from NDA government as accepting the demand of the state government the Government of India (GoI) has now revised the relief norms to the distressed farmers for the crop damage due to natural calamities across the country adding that now the farmers would be eligible for input subsidy if 33% of their crop has been damaged instead of earlier norms of 50% or more. Likewise, he said that in a big relief to the farmers affected by the unseasonal rains and hailstorm in the region the NDA government has decided to bear the value cut on their harvest. However, Mr. Badal said that it was not enough as the compensation of the crop loss must be rationalized and brought at par with the amount of loss. “Above all introduction of crop insurance scheme is the need of the hour to save farmers from the current agrarian crisis” he added.
Earlier addressing a massive gathering here at a public rally, the Chief Minister termed the SAD-BJP alliance government as the most secular government in the country. He said that the state government has taken path breaking initiatives for the welfare of each and every strata of society adding that it was a fact that the SAD-BJP alliance government was following the footsteps of the great Sikh Gurus who have taught them the message of communal harmony, love, brotherhood, peace and above all of egalitarian society with pure secular character. Mr. Badal said that was why that the state government have always taken adequate steps to ensure the all-round development of every section of the society.



The Chief Minister further said that strenuous efforts have been made by the state government to preserve the rich cultural legacy of the state by building world class monuments at a cost of nearly Rs 1000 crore to immortalize the memory of the great and unparalleled role played by our great heroes and martyrs in shaping the course of human history. He said these include the state-of-the-art Virasat-e-Khalsa memorial at Sri Anandpur Sahib, memorials of Vadda and Chhota Ghallughara , Baba Banda Singh Bahadur War memorial at Chappar Chiri, Bhagwan Valmiki ( Bhagwan Valmik Tirath Sthal Amritsar ) and  Guru Ravidass (at Khuralgarh in Hoshiarpur). Mr. Badal said that apart from these, memorials of Swami Vivekananda at Kapurthala, Baba Jiwan Singh (Bhai Jaita Ji) at Sri Anandpur Sahib, Baba Moti Ram Mehra at Fatehgarh Sahib and Bhai Mati Dass, Bhai Sati Dass and Bhai Dayala Ji at Sri Anandpur Sahib were also at various stages of planning and execution.


The Chief Minister further said that in a major step aimed at providing world class civic amenities to residents of the cities across the state, the Punjab government has embarked a major scheme providing the facility of water supply, sewerage, Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs), Streetlights, Roads and parks in all the  towns of the state. He said that the focus of the state government was to refurbish the cities with the state-of-the art facilities so that the residents could be benefitted from it on one hand and giving impetus to the overall development of the state on the other.

Free Coaching in Meritorious Students from March 10

Pb. Govt. taken solid steps for Higher Education

The state government would now provide free coaching for higher education to all students studying in Schools for Meritorious Students from March 10 onwards. These students have already got admitted in these Schools after securing 80 percent marks in class 10th. Under this new programme, these students would be benefitted as the state government would impart them free coaching for higher education after class 12th.
        The students would be trained for institutes such as IIT, JEE-IIT, AIIMS, NIT, BITS Pilani, AFMC Pune, CA, Law, CLAT, besides other courses along with all medical and engineering institutes successfully running in the state.
        As per the recommendations of a committee named "Society for Promotion Quality Education for Poor and Meritorious Students of Punjab", which is formed by the Punjab government, tenders were floated. Tenders of two private coaching centres-namely "Aeon Educreators" for medical and non medical and "ABC Tutorials" for commerce have been approved. Both of these coaching centres have pan India presence and are a reputed name in this field.
        The Punjab government is presently running six Schools for Meritorious Students in the state and directions regarding the same have already been conveyed to the respective Deputy Commissioners in whose district these schools are running successfully.
        Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Mr Rajat Agarwal informed that free coaching for competitive classes would be imparted to students studying in this school. He said that both "Aeon Educreators" and "ABC Tutorials" would impart coaching to students from 4 pm to 7pm daily from March 10 onwards.
        The DC informed that out of total 297 students, 56 students are from medical, 197 of non medical and 44 of commerce streams. The private coaching institutes would impart training till June 2015 and during this time, they would conduct atleast 500 sessions and 50 tests.
        He said that this decision has been taken so that the students can get admission in leading institutes of the country after completing their class twelfth (senior secondary).
        To make sure that the studies of students of School for Meritorious Students, Civil Lines, Ludhiana don't suffer, the school will now have uninterrupted power supply as it would now have a hotline connection, informed the DC.
