Agriculture labours and MANREGA workers held a dharna

A call given by Punjab Khet Mazdoor Sabha to observe Agriculture Labour Demands day thousand of agriculture labours and MANREGA workers held a dharna at the Mini Secretariat today 26.02.2014. Women in large number participated in this dharna. Addressing the gathering Punjab state secretary of the sabha Com Gulzar Goria said that there has been no increase in the pension of the elderly, widows and the disabled for the last 8 years. The government has announced that their pension will be increase from Rs.250.00 to Rs.500.00 per month but it not been implemented. Even this is not given for several months. He demanded that the centre and the state government should constitute a social security fund. People above 60 years should be given at least  Rs.3000.00 per month as pension and this should be increased according to rising inflation. The rural job guarantee scheme should be implemented in sprit and the number of days should be increased from 100 to 200 per year. The daily wages should be increase from Rs.184.00 to Rs.350.00. 
Job should be guaranteed in case of no job. The unemployment benefits should be given within 15 days. MAREGA workers should be regularized. Homeless should be provided with houses. Plots of 10 merla each along with three lac rupees to build the house should be given to the needy. Free education should be  guaranteed to the poor. Scholarships to the poor children which have not been paid to them for long should be released immediately. Every worker should be guaranteed with 35 kgs of grains through blue cards. Rupees five lac should be given to the family in case of accidental death. Shagan scheme should be increased to thirty thousand. Addressing the gathering Com Bant Singh Brar, state secretary CPI said that large number of agriculture workers and toiling people will march in Chandigarh on 3rd and 4th March to press for their demands. 
He criticized the state government for wasteful expenditure ignoring the basic needs of the toiling people. Others who addressed the gathering include Com Kartar Singh Bowani, Com Kulwnat Singh Hunjan, Hardam Singh, Karnail Singh Nathowal, Dr Arun Mitra, O P Mehta, D P Maur, Amar Singh Bhatia, Hari Ram Rajgarh and Ramesh Rattan.
