The department has doctors and staffs on special emergency duty round the clock at the Advance Eye Centre PGIMER, Chandigarh from the morning of 11-11-2023 to 14-11-2023 (8 am) to attend the patients on arrival.

A total of 23 patients came to the Advanced Eye Centre on 11-11-2023  (8 AM) to 13-11-2023 (8 AM) with alleged history of fire crackers injuries in 48 hours. There were 18 males and 5 females, of theses 10 were age 14 years and the youngest being 6 years old. There were 14 patients from Tricity (Chandigarh-10 Mohali 1 and PKL- 2) and rest from the neighboring states of Punjab (3), Haryana (6), Himachal Pradesh (2). Thirteen patients were bystanders and rest 10 were bursting crackers themselves.

Out of 23 patients 7 eyes have open globe injuries and needed emergency surgeries. 16 had closed globe injuries and 13 of these have serious injuries.  Rest 3 out of 23 have either minor injuries or skin injuries and were managed conservatively. We have comparative data of previous 3 years and we feel it was comparatively lesser cases in this Diwali 2023.
