BSP activists burnt effigy to raise the voice against Punjab state Minister Bikram Singh Majithia in Amritsar. Protesting workers demanded filing of FIR against him after figuring his name in the drug racket on Jan. 11, 2014. With this action BSP also joined the serial protests campaign against Mr. Majithia. CPI and Congress already held protest marches and dharnas in Ludhiana and other places.
In the meantime A large number of people also came out in support of Punjab cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia, whose name has figured in multi-crore synthetic drug racket, and condemned his being dragging in the illicit trade. Supporters of Majithia held rallies and raised slogans against Punjab Congress leaders at Majitha, Chawinda Devi and Mattewal areas of Amritsar district on Saturday. In counter protests these Akali workers targeted congress party leaders.
Addressing these gatherings in different parts of the Punjab Akali leaders blamed Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Partap Singh Bajwa and his brother Fatehjung Singh Bajwa for maligning the image of Majithia. They also warned to launch a massive protest against Bajwa brothers if both did not stop, what they claimed, malicious and misleading propaganda against their leader. Now time will prove that who will win the protest race.

The Chief Minister of Pakistan Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Deputy Chief Minister Punjab Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal and Revenue Minister of Punjab Mr Bikram Singh Majithia today paid obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar on the concluding day of his four day visit to India.
       Both leaders have prayed to the Almighty to grant peace and prosperity to both the countries. Meanwhile, the President of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Jathedar Avtar Singh demanded a corridor for Sikh pilgrims to frequently pay obeisance at historic Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib and also sought more visas for the Sikh pilgrims, especially on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji being celebrated at Nankana Sahib.

       The SGPC also made a proposal to construct a ‘Saran’ at Gurdwara Dera Sahib Lahore for pilgrims/ jathas who visits Pakistan every year.

           Earlier, the SGPC President  Jathedar Avtar Singh honoured Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan delegation with siropas and  replica of Sri Darbar Sahib and a book set. Shahbaz Sharif assured SGPC chief that he would take up the matter with Pakistan Government.
Prominent amongst present on the occassion included Mr Kamal Sharma BJP President and CPS Mr Inderbir Singh Bolaria.

“Keeping up the tradition, PHD –Punjab International Trade Expo, this edition too has been able to generate business queries worth more than 260 crores”, said Dalip Sharma on the final day of the 5 day trade and cultural extravaganza.
“Over 2.3 Lakh have already visited PHD-PITEX till this time. Looking at the rush at this time, we are expecting another 30-40,000 more visitors by the end of the day”, shared Sharma.
Looking at the response, we have decided to organize the 9thedition of PHD-PITEX from 4th to 8th December next year, informed Sharma.
Showing satisfaction over the five day event, Sharma said, “It could not have been possible without the all- out support from the Punjab government and the Amritsar administration.”
The participation of 8 Chambers of Pakistan viz Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sheikhpura Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sargodha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jhang Chamber of Commerce, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the trade counselors from Poland, Taiwan, British Columbia, American Business Center representing USA and Bangladesh gave a B2B touch to the whole event.
The visiting international delegates held rounds of B2B talks with the industry and trade counterparts from the region over the past four days.
Last year, too, informed Sharma Interwoods Mobel Private Ltd. From Pakistan, who had joined PITEX for the first time, entered into a joint venture with Sinochem Pvt. Ltd. from India and set up IWM Interwood Mobel Pvt. Ltd.
Likewise, the regular exhibitor in PITEX, Master Group of Industries Lahore, has set up their showroom in Amritsar. Another brand, quipped Khursheed Barlas, CEO, Pak World Trade Center, the PITEX exhibitor Attractions by Kamal Fabrics from Faisalabad, Pakistan, is planning its first outlet in New Delhi shortly which would be followed by Amritsar later.
At the time of the issue of release, people swarmed stalls in each of the 8 hangars. Jewellery, Pakistani fabrics, phulkari items, gujrati handicrafts, jute items, crockery area a rage among women, while Pakistani juttis, bosky from Pakistan are a big hit with the men.
Blankets, quilts, fancy lights, gift items, gajjak from Rajasthan, Hing and kesar from Iran, are other big hits.
“The event should be extended to another day or so. Because of the huge rush, we have not been able to visit all the hangars properly”, said a visitor at PITEX.
“The last two days saw good rush but today, it is sea of visitors here and we are having good business”, said a beaming Gul Ahmed, a Pak exhibitor.

CM For Further Broadening The Reach To World Level

Calling upon PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry for further broadening of PHD- Punjab International Trade Expo from regional level to international level, Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, Punjab said, “I have myself seen PITEX grow in size and exposure than each previous year. I wish that PITEX is organized at the world level.”
Chief Minister was addressing the visitors during the ValedictoryCeremony of PHD-Punjab International Trade Expo, 2013, PITEX, 2013. He graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Praising PHD Chamber’s efforts, Chief Minister said that PHD Chamber has been playing a great role to align the state and central government policies regarding trade and investment. Further he appreciated the dedicated endeavors of the Chamber to normalize trade and peace between India and Pakistan.
Badal said that PITEX has become phenomenal and both traders and visitors look forward to this expo each year.
Rajiv Bali, Chairman, Punjab Committee, PHD Chamber said PHD Chamber’s focus is on socio-economic development of all the states with the main focus being on education, health, housing and infrastructure. PITEX, he said, is the annual flagship event which aims at making Amritsar a hub of international economic activity.  
Dalip Sharma, Regional Director, PHD Chamber said that during the five day mega event, industry associations from Punjab had one to one B2B meetings with the representatives of visiting 7 Chambers of Commerce and Industry from Pakistan. Business communities on both the sides showed keen interest in business opportunities available in respective countries. Trade Counselors from Poland, British Columbia, Bangladesh, Taiwan, and American Business Center, America participated.
Awards were also distributed by the Chief Minister during the valedictory ceremony of PHD-PITEX, 2013. The award for Highest Footfall category went to Chevrolet and International Tractors Ltd. While the award for Best Display went to Kajaria Ceramics, and Interwoods Mobel Pvt. Ltd., Master Group of Industries, Pakistan and Kamal Fabrics was given the award for Best International exhibitor.
