Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh paid tribute to Bharat Ratna, Father of Indian Constitution Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on his 133rd Birth Anniversary today on 14th April, 2024. The SC/ST Cell of PEC, Chandigarh organised a special event to mark this special occasion with commemorative poetries, insightful and heartfelt reflection of the life history of the iconic social reformer Baba Sahib Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The Chief Guest of the event Prof. (Dr.) Tara Singh Kamal (Retd., faculty of ECE, PEC), Guest of Honor Prof. (Dr.) V. P. Singh (Retd., faculty of MED, PEC) along with Director of PEC, Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, Registrar Col. R. M. Joshi, DSA Dr. D. R. Prajapati and Chairperson SC/ ST Cell Prof. Balwinder Singh graced the occasion with their esteemed presence. The Event begins with offering & garlanding flowers to the portrait of Bharat Ratna, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar by the esteemed dignitaries. A small documentary about the working and activities o0f SC/ST Cell was also shown to the audience.
Initially, Prof. Balwinder Singh, expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards all the esteemed guests and audience at large for gracing this special occasion. He also explained the significance of the day and alos of SC/ST Cell, followed by the encouragement for greater involvement by the faculty and students in various competitions organized by the cell.
Guest of Honor Prof. (Dr.) V. P. Singh, shed light on the historical background of Baba Sahib Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's life, his knowledge, education and talent. He also complimented Director, Prof. Baldev Setia for his work, activities and contributions towards the glorification of the Institute. He also shared a quote of Baba Sahib, ''I like the religion that teaches liberty, equality and fraternity.''
Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Tara Singh Kamal, shares interesting facts related to Baba Sahib's life, which encourages others to face the difficulties, tackling them and do the things, the work silently, that we are supposed to do. He also shared the strategies to overcome challenges of life and mastering the ability of time management. Lastly, he expressed his gratitude towards Prof. Setia and all the organizers of this important event.
Director of PEC, Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, expressed his heartfelt greetings on the 133th birth anniversary of Baba Sahib. He also welcomed the esteemed dignitaries on the portals of PEC. He also complimented the organizers for arranging this program with various competitions, bringing together the former & present faculty members, staff and the students of the institute. He also shared various anecdotes from the life of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. His way of learning, unwavering commitment towards studies, had made him a true Bharat Ratna. He also shared a shloka from Bhagwat Geete for leading a balanced life for becoming a Yug Purush. He also said that, ''Baba Sahib is much more than what we know and read about him.''
Prof. Arun Kumar Singh (Head, SRIC) delivered a comprehensive overview of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's life achievements, his commitment towards various social reforms, and his own advocacy for democracy and political engagement.
Dr. Sukhwinder Singh, shared the need for encouraging voting rights of people, echoing Dr. Ambedkar's advocacy for equal political rights and engagement for healthy democracy.
Dr. Tejinder Pal Singh, in his address, shed light on the reforms and work done by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar for the society at large. He also refers to Dr. Ambedkar as a ''Tower without Staircase'', and his pivotal role played by him in shaping the Constitution of India.
One student Shreyanshika Garg also recited a poem on Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and vote of thanks by Dr. Padmavati. Overall, the commemorative event at the institute served as a platform for meaningful reflection, dialogue, and inspiration, as attendees were reminded of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's timeless ideals of social justice, equality, and empowerment.
