Surprises Galore In Twenty First Century

Received From B B Goyal Ludhiana on 26th September 2025 at 6:13 PM

Guest Article by *Prof PK Sharma

Ludhiana: 26th September 2025: (Media Link Ravinder//Punjab Screen Desk)::

Brij Bhushan Goya is very known for his creative works, articles and reports etc. Today he sent an special article by *Prof PK Sharma.

Every era, time and century brims indeed with its own varied hues, innovations and distinctive contours."Change is the law of nature"is a time tested and popular saying, why not it be so with the present century too unfolding many of its queer surprises on the world scene in sharp comparison to the past ones?

Ruminating over the nuances of twenty first century, one stark reality of life haunts off and on that nothing is hard and fast in life.It reminds of William Shakespeare's famous play"Macbeth" in which at the very outset of the drama three witches chant,"Fair is foul and foul is fair" making it very candidly clear that words, concepts and definitions go on changing their connotations with the passage of time.In today's foxy a world, no one knows and is certain when "fair" turns "foul" and "foul" turns"fair"within the twinkling of an eye.

Never ever imagined that things will undergo bizarre an alteration in the present century so swiftly in all the four directions north, east, west and south of the globe.A bird's eye view ironically bears testimony to this fact that there are sharp contrasts and contradictions tangible on the today's world scene studying quite raptly the yore too.

First of all, the word DEMOCRACY comes to my mind. The famous quote of Abraham Lincoln erstwhile US President in his1863 Gettysburg address claimed it as"government of the people,by the people, for the people, shall not perish." Democracy in India drummed as the"mother of democracy" virtually is now "government of the few,by the few, for the few." The word people evaporates because of a yawning gap between the rich and the poor and inequalities unabated at various levels in "We the people of India...." pointing out evidently towards the same where A1 and A2 in terms of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in addition to the Supremo reign supreme, not at all the people of India.

Democracy is treated these days so whimsically and instinctively in India as a fiefdom as the Lok Sabha has been pulling on sans the post of Deputy Speaker for the past over six years.Mr.Jagdeep Dhankhar Vice-President  of India-cum- Chairman Rajya Sabha on July,21 conducts too cheerfully the proceedings of the House of Elders on the opening day of Parliament's Monsoon session but by the evening either he quits his office mysteriously on health grounds in reality or made to do so  unceremoniously after completing half of his term deemed to be the blue eyed boy of "the powers that be".What a new norm of democracy did take everybody by surprise in June,2024 when the BJP's parliamentary party did not dare to convene a meeting to elect its leader in Lok Sabha but instead it was the National Democratic Alliance which completed this ritual of electing NDA leader to offer the Supremo a hassle free and safe passage to be sworn in for the third time as the Executive Head of the nation.Israel too is having democracy only in the name as PM Benjamin Netanyahu is calling the shots ruling the roost turning out to be a symbol of the devilish dance of destruction, devastation, displacement and death- only and ultimately the people and mankind the casualty.

An active journalist of more than four decades, journalism for me then in past century and now in the present one deserves deep peep into as well as a sharp analytical look.Journalism as I have comprehended so far, implies digging out truth but is it so in the letter and the spirit in India now?The spot reporting, human interest stories, first page editorials and exclusive symbolic photojournalism by and large seem to be the casualties, bidden a go bye these days also from the style sheet of journals and electronic media. The print and electronic press barring few exceptions have a penchant for concentrating and focussing unduly on the duo of ruling party "supremos" more, overlooking the opposition party bigwigs off and on.

The September 17 editions of various TV channels, English and Hindi dailies did abound with many birthday stories, ads and snaps of the supremo very unusually almost on most of the pages, making no photojournalism sense when nation on the whole had been passing through very odd, trying and tough times in wake of the fierce fury of floods in the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Bihar,Jammu Kashmir and Haryana. On  keen observation,it was found that a reputed 150 year old English daily carried eleven photographs of the "supremo" in its 12 page edition on this particular day making a mockery of photo journalism. Quite often in routine too, some dailies display at least half a dozen snaps of the "supremo" offering too much space in one edition on a given single day whereas the enough space if so saved can be utilised optimally for either disseminating some other important information or more exclusive stories.

The "Number One"and "Number Two" of the nation still do not entertain any difference between the ruling party and opposition suffering from paradoxes in abundance though in the driving seat for more than eleven years. Both do not feel shy of blaming Congress for all the ills and blemishes in the nation to sustain in power for long.Recently in a poll rally in Purnia of Bihar, the Supremo made Congress Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal scapegoat for protecting the infiltrators in Bihar posing a grave threat to India on many accounts forgetting that it is PM and Home Minister's duty to arrest this problem staring the nation in the face as both are holding the reigns of power for more than eleven years .Come polls anywhere in the nation, far flung-futile issues never ever bothered or cared, are in the forefront and vogue  pressed as the poll campaign stuff to befool the masses !

The word "peace" too has assumed very startling semiotics in the present day world. Some of the five Veto Powers too have been resorting to amusing antics. The Russian President Vladimir Putin whose country is involved in long drawn a war with Ukraine strangely proposed himself for mediation of ceasefire between Israel and Palestine forces.US President Donald Trump has been yearning for Nobel Peace Prize on account of claiming time and again mediation in seven peace missions including the cease fire between Pakistan and India claimed almost forty five times but not dittoed by India, who at one time did not refrain from attacking Iran on one or the other pretext, then Russia and Ukraine stance too did not please Trump who did strive in vain to put a full stop to their war despite his repeated efforts in this regard. The big powers of the world wish to sell modern dreadful weapons of war just to the developing nations but at the same time yearn for Nobel Peace Prize decoration too,how paradoxical a wish !

All in all,the nineteenth and twentieth centuries did leave their remarkable as well dismal footprints on the sands of time but the twenty first century has so far been replete with its dreadful,awe-inspiring and traumatic times be it Gujarat Riots, Corona Catastrophe,Coup In Afghanistan,Change Of Guard In Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal, Russia Ukraine War,Indo-Pakistan Conflicts on borders,Sino-Indian Skirmishes,Israel-Palestine  Tug of War Still In Progress, Manipur Mayhem With Climatic Dangers looming large playing havoc over the world scene. The world in the 20th Century becoming a global village owing to technological advances and revolution is standing on the brink of grave impending dangers and disasters swayed by hollow, petty egos and arrogant mindsets at the international level hence peace, amity and harmony alluding the world badly.

Why do Killers roam the streets without any fear?

The murder at Dugri Dhandra Road raises many questions

Dugri Road Ludhiana: 28 June 2025: (Media Link Ravinder//Punjab Screen Desk)::

Violent incidents are increasing openly on the streets. These gangs roam the streets creating bloodshed and carrying out violent crimes with great fearlessness. Along with robberies, murders are also increasing. The murderous gangs are increasingly fearless. Bloodshed has become a common thing. Those who make violence and murder their lifestyle probably feel that the person asking them here There is none. There is no one to stop them.

The case of murder of Jaggu Bhagwanpuriya's mother was still recent when a property dealer Kuldip Singh was hacked to death with swords in the middle of the road. Few Years ago deceased was the PA of former MP and Senior Akali leader Jagdev Singh Talwandi in Ludhiana.

There were many people passing there at that time but due to fear no one came to save him, yes, some people wanted to make the video of the murder. These people had also made videos during the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala.

The murderers had vented out their enmity and anger with satisfaction in their hearts and while passing by Instead of trying to save the victim of hooliganism, people consider it a farce. Were recording. Was making a video. Police should recruit such people for such work only. Their wishes will be fulfilled and along with this, society and law will also get some benefit.

All this came to mind while remembering the past. Jathedar Jagdev Singh Talwandi was a senior Akali leader of very harsh nature in Ludhiana. Jagdev Singh Talwandi was once the chief of Akali Dal. His yes or no would have an impact on national politics. The sect passed a very critical juncture as soon as it happened.

He was not only called the Iron Man, but he was also considered the Iron Man. Even in public life, he used to move like an iron man. His former PA Kuldeep Singh Mundiyan is now being killed with swords at 'Dugri Dhandra Road' in Ludhiana. He was murdered openly.

This very brutal murder has shaken the entire area. When the Bahubali's have started killing other Bahubali's present in public like this, then Just think what would be the condition of common people due to fear.

The same common people who are not bothered by issues like bread and butter. Kuldeep Singh, who had been the PA of Akali leader Jathedar Talwandi, was later surrounded by car riders. Took it when he was returning from his farm house on Dhandra Road to his home in Mundia. Kuldeep Singh  used to do the business of property dealer but it was not heard that there was any dispute regarding him.

The group following him surrounded him and even attacked him. During this attack itself, he was taken out and thrown on the road and started being beaten. Soon the word 'beating' also started being used. The sword strikes continued until death. The video of this disgusting incident has also gone viral. It is being said that it was made by a passerby.

Perhaps no one would have imagined such a decline in security arrangements that important A person like this will be slaughtered on the road like an animal. Goon gangs will declare their rule on the streets. It was a heart-wrenching and horrifying scene on the streets of Ludhiana, Punjab late on Friday night. The police station is also nearby but the murderers probably had no fear. When Kuldeep Singh Mundia was being brutally murdered with swords in the middle of the road, The number of people passing there was also not less. By gaining courage, some people could even attack the attackers, but who can bring trouble to a stranger?

People are scared due to continuously increasing violent incidents. They either close their eyes and go on their way or make a video out of curiosity. Looks like. Even at the time of this incident, the people present nearby were busy making videos instead of helping.

As often happens, even after this incident the culprit successfully runs away after killing his victim. Came out. This time too, there is an atmosphere of terror in the area after the incident. Police have started investigation and Kuldeep's family has been informed about the incident. The culprits will be caught soon. But what will happen to the fearlessness and terror of the goonda gangs due to such incidents? Is increasing continuously. Such incidents keep happening somewhere or the other. The name of the city, street, locality and road itself changes.

This entire incident also happened within a few minutes but no one took any steps to save the old man who was the victim of attack. Didn't try. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media, which is helping the police to identify the culprit. But these few murders have left such fear in the hearts and minds of the people of Minuten area that they will soon Will not go away.

Madam Avneet Kaur, SHO of Sadar police station, said that the reason behind the murder is not clear at the moment. But according to the public discussion heard during this period, prima facie the possibility of a land dispute is also being expressed.

The details of how the deceased Kuldeep Singh acquired his wealth will also be revealed from time to time. The entire family of deceased Kuldeep Singh has been in Canada for a long time. He lived alone here in Punjab. His relatives in Canada have been informed about the incident.

According to the police, Kuldeep had returned after staying in Canada for some time and was alone in Ludhiana. Used to live. He had a farm house on 'Dhandhra Road'. Besides this he also does property business.

Govt have not given proper justice to martyr Sukhdev

Tuesday 14th May 2024 at 8:10 PM

His birthplace is still deprived of proper recognition

Article Lahore Conspiracy Case: "Crown v. Sukh Dev and others" is written by Brij Bhushan Goyal to pay homage to Martyr Sukhdev Thapar on his birthday 15th May

Ludhiana
: 14th May 2024: (Brij Bhushan Goel//Punjab Screen India Desk)::

In this case, Sukhdev Thapar, born on 15 May 1907 in Naugra Mohalla of Old Ludhiana city, was made the main conspirator and accused। AAP and Bhagat Singh and Rajguru and 22 other people, who were almost of the same age, were also made accused in this case। Along with this, his other young peers were also made co-opters। The events of the 1920s and the struggle for the freedom of the nation at the beginning of this case shook the hearths of British rule, imperialism in India। Finally this “revolutionary Trimurti” was sentenced to death by hanging and was hanged on 23 March 1931। Not only this, many more people in this case were sentenced to life imprisonment and sent away from the country, exiled।

When we look at Shaheed Sukhdev's short but full of great events, we see that he was only 03 years old when his father Shri Ram Lal Thapar passed away। Shri Ram Lal Thapar was a small businessman, businessman। Thus, this ignorant boy Sukhdev was brought up under the care of his uncle Shri Achint Ram Thapar, who lived in Lyallpur, Punjab (today Pakistan)। In Lyallpur, Mr. Achint Ramji was a prominent social worker and a prominent supporter of the freedom movement and in this regard, his arrest in 1919 and 1921 had a great impact on the mind of the young Sukhdev with the added anger of the country's service and he decided against it. Decided commitment to struggle against। The families of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev had a deep acquaintance। Thus, after completing their school education, this young couple enrolled in National College Lahore for further studies। In those days, this was the only college in Lahore which was founded by the famous freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai and in this college, the youth were filled with social service, as if they were given intensive training in social service।

In the same college, there was freedom to participate in intellectual discussions in an open and courageous manner for young fighters, talents, openly questioning their teachers on various topics, considering and knowing the activities of revolutionaries from all over the world, revolutionaries of India। Thus the teacher who influenced this young couple the most... He was a scholar of political science Prof. Jayachandra Vidyalankar। Not only this, this couple also used to visit Lala Dwarkanath Library established by Lala Lajpat Rai ji to read books regularly for their studies। A large number of political literature and contemporary and enlightening journals were also available in this library, which attracted Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev। Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev would often borrow books from this library and read them and discuss various topics in their rented room for a long time and hours। In those days, pre-partition Lahore was a major center of education in the Indian state of Punjab। Thus, the freedom struggle movement in those days affected every Indian youth। In the same series, these young students formed a student organization in Lahore in 1926 under the name “Naujuan Bharat Sabha”। This organization was a purely socialist and non-religious organization devoid of religious discrimination in its entire nature।  In this organization, Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev made great efforts to involve the youth of Punjab and they also got success। Guardians (parent or other related) of these youths had already joined “Hindustan Socialist Republic Association” formed in Bengal in 1924 by Ram Prasad Bismil।

The young revolutionaries based in Lahore started special meetings and contacts with the community youth in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Punjab। On 08-09 September 1928 in Ferozshah Kotla, Delhi, he announced the formation of Hindustan Socialist Republic Association। Thus, the word socialist was also added to the name of Hindustan Republic Association। Both Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev hated communalism and wanted to create a just society, a society। Thus Chandrasekhar Azad H.S.R.A. was made the commander of। The main nature of this organization's structure was to rebel against the British government। Sukhdev's organizational intelligence, being one of the leading functionaries of the organization, was made in charge of Punjab affairs. (4। .... And that was the time when this organization decided to oppose the Simon Commission when it came to India and Saharanpur, Agra and Lahore Vic also started making bombs।

“The British government sent an commission called the Simon Commission to India to study the performance of the ongoing government under the Government of India Act, 1919”, but no Indian person was included in it। Political groups and revolutionaries living in Lahore jointly decided to oppose it at the railway station on reaching Lahore। On October 30, 1928, under the leadership of Sukhdev, the workers of the Youth Bharat Sabha and other people of the society also joined the people who came under the leadership of Lala Lajpat Rai। These workers also made a protective enclosure available to Lalaji। As soon as the demonstration started, Lahore Police Superintendent James A. Scott ordered them to be lathi-charged। As soon as Scott saw Lalaji, the police started beating him very brutally। Due to this, there were serious injuries on his chest and as a result blood flow had also started। After this, a meeting was held at Mori Gate in Lahore, in which Lala ji gave a speech without caring about his injuries and said that.... “ I declare that every single blow of the stick on my chest will prove to be a nail in the shroud of English rule in India.“ On his saying this, Deputy Superintendent of Police Neil, who was present there, shouted, which caused Sukhdev a lot of pain, because he was also present there। Not bearing the brunt of the police batons, he went to Swarag Siddhar after a few days। H on it.S.R.A. To avenge this gross insult and the death of Lalaji, the responsible police officer James A. for this lathi charge. It was decided to take revenge on Scott।

After this, Sukhdev and other revolutionaries in Lahore for a few days James A. Scott began to monitor his office activities ‘। Finally according to the plan made by Sukhdev, his trusted comrades ... Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Chandrasekhar and Jayagopal were entrusted with this task of revenge। According to the plan on 17 December 1928 James A. Plans were drawn up to kill Scott। The revolutionaries reached their designated place at the time। ... But in a delusion of identity, he killed another police officer, A.S.P. J.P.Saunders, who was some 21 years younger than Scott, was murdered when he was coming out of his office in the evening। In fact, James Scott was on duty in Kasur province that day। A head constable named Channan Singh, who was doing duty with Saunders, was also shot dead by the revolutionaries in this shooting। These young revolutionaries also pasted handwritten posters on the walls of Lahore city at night, on which it was written.... “ Lala Lajpat Rai's death was avenged.“ On the second day in the evening, these Surrey revolutionaries hid their identity and left for Calcutta by train going to Calcutta at night। At Calcutta, Sukhdev learned the technique of making bombs। After some time all these revolutionaries started gathering again in Agra, Saharanpur and Delhi।

In 1929, the British government in India introduced two bills-The Trade Disappointments Bill, and the Public Safety Bill - in the Delhi Assembly। The sole purpose of introducing these bills was to curb the activities of the revolutionaries and to prevent those who were preparing to protest against the government। All the nationalists strongly opposed these bills। H.S.R.A. On 08 April 1929, the young members of the Assembly decided to protest these bills by firing 02 bombs and raising slogans in their own voice। This work was entrusted to Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt। It would also be closer to giving the idea here that H.S.R.A. Most of the other members were not in favor of giving this responsibility to Bhagat Singh। He protested by saying that everyone knows that Bhagat Singh is already involved in the Saunders murder case in Lahore and by doing so, his identity will be opened।  Expressing anger at this, Sukhdev announced his decision to send Bhagat Singh in this work because he knew and he was also confident that Bhagat Singh was the one who did this work, that is, the work of throwing bombs in the assembly. can do with। After dropping the bomb and pamphlet they also had to raise loud slogans of “long live the revolution। Both of them were arrested because after throwing the bomb, they did not consider it necessary to run from there to save themselves, they did not try it। On this, Sukhdev was quite restless thinking about Bhagat Singh's safety for a few days, because Bhagat Singh was the only person with whom he used to argue and loved him the most। Later, Sukhdev Thapar and Pandit Kishori Lal and Jay Gopal were also arrested।

Now the police were confident that Sukhdev Thapar was the brain behind all these revolutionary activities going on from Lahore। Therefore, in this case, in April 1929, Hamilton Harding, S.S.P. By Special Judge R.S. An F in Pandit's court.I.R. It was filed in which it was stated that in the background of this entire incident, mainly the mind of Sukhdev Thapar was working। So this f.I.R. He was accused at number-1। The matter came to be known as the Lahore Conspiracy Case 1929 and was officially named “British Taj v. Sukhdev and Hor”। In this case, his name was said to be “rural” i.e. farmer son Ramlal Thapar, caste Khatri Thapar। All arrested revolutionaries... Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt were brought to Lahore Central Jail as the police were confident that this conspiracy of their activities was originally hatched in Lahore। In the same jail, the revolutionaries went on a hunger strike without eating for a few days and were forcefully fed। He was beaten and even killed in jail। But those people kept insisting again and again that they should also be treated like prisoners of war because they are also struggling to free their country from British imperialism। He vented his anger and anger in front of the judges in the courts and refused to appear in those courts from now on।

Although this trial in the court of the Special Judge in this case had already started from 11 July 1929, but even after many hearing dates were over, the court proceedings were not being completed।  On this, the Viceroy of India, George Irwin, in exercise of his powers under Section 72 of the Government of India Act, 1915, promulgated the Lahore Conspiracy Case Ordinance-91 on 01 May 1930 so that its hearing could begin before a special tribunal of 03 judges। Thus, the decision of the judges under this ordinance could not be challenged in any court and any appeal could be heard about it only in the Privy Council in London। He also reasoned in the issuance of this ordinance that the accused persons in this case are not cooperating, are going on hunger strikes and are disrupting the order in the courts due to which the case is repeatedly dismissed from hearing, resulting in There is a delay in decision making। This ordinance was neither approved by the Central Legislative Assembly nor by the then Rajya Sabha (Council of States)। According to this Ordinance, the Tribunal was required to give a decision within 06 months and accordingly it allowed the defendant revolutionaries to present their case and to have a lawyer in their defense, or to defend themselves on behalf of their family or on behalf of their supporters in India or in London. Any means, let alone any opportunity available। It became clear from this that the purpose of this ordinance was to sentence these revolutionaries to death as soon as possible। Now, unfortunately, this work was also completed on 07 October 1930। Many law experts say that in this way, the British government managed to make the end of this type of judicial murder irrelevant.... According to the earlier proceedings in this case, this tribunal also ordered Sukhdev to conspire with Bhagat Singh, being his right hand as an efficient planner, to implement his plans by making Rajguru the main shooter in the conspiracy, a He said that he was the perpetrator of the consequential action that led to Saunders' murder।

The jail administration had earlier fixed the date of execution of the martyrs as 24 March 1931.  But keeping in mind the fear of any kind of upadar outside the jail, this fixed date was postponed and instead of 24, these three were sentenced to death on 23 March 1931 in the evening। The relatives of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, who had reached there before being hanged, were also not allowed to meet them। Only his mother, Mrs. Rali Dai Thapar and Mr. Mathuradas Thapar, who came to meet Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar, were allowed to meet while his uncle Mr. Achintram ji had a letter of recommendation regarding the meeting of the Chief Secretary, Punjab. Despite meeting them, they were not allowed to see। Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar was asked his last wish by the jailer before he was taken to the gallows, so he only said, “his carrom board should be returned to his family.“

Sukhdev, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru hugged each other before going to the gallows and putting the gallows around their necks, they kissed the noose of the gallows and in the sound of sky-shaking slogans of “revolution Zindabad“ of other prisoners in the jail premises. The three heroes were hanged on the gallows। On hearing this news, a large crowd of people had gathered outside this central jail of Lahore and the administration was afraid of any untoward। Because of this, the dead bodies of these three martyrs were not handed over to the relatives despite repeated requests. As soon as the night fell, they were quietly taken from Lahore to Ferozepur on the banks of the Sutlej river in police vehicles to perform the last rites of those dead bodies. was brought and burnt।

Please Note: This article is written to commemorate the contribution of Shaheed Sukhdev. It is strongly felt that due justice has not been given by the governments to explain his role in the freedom struggle and the Lahore Conspiracy. And his birthplace still lacks proper recognition. He should be given more attention by the government and the society. It is worth mentioning that this must have happened to many other martyrs. We will keep bringing these details to the readers. CM Mann recalled the stellar role of Punjab

Chief Minister's Office, Punjab     26th January 2024 at 5:11 PM
Punjab played a big role in attaining the freedom of the country

Ludhiana
: 26th January 2024: (Karthika Kalyani Singh//Punjab Screen Desk)::

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday recalled the stellar role played by the Punjabis in attaining the freedom of the country and then carving out the modern day Indian Republic by preserving its unity, integrity and sovereignty through countless sacrifices.

Addressing the gathering after unfurling the national tri-color in a function to mark 75th Republic Day, the Chief Minister said that this day assumes a lot of significance for us because Punjabis had brought it after enormous sacrifices.

He said that during the pre-independence period many January 26 had passed but no one was allowed to unfurl the national flag. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that now only we have the right to celebrate this day but it is unfortunate that the tableau of state was deliberately kept out of the Republic Day parade.

The Chief Minister said that it is surprising how national festivals can be celebrated without Punjab adding that those who had deliberately kept Punjab’s tableau out of the parade must tell what is wrong in them. He said that the rich culture and heritage of the state has been duly showcased in the tableaus made by the state government because we can’t compromise with the pride of the state.

Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the mockery of the supreme sacrifices made by the Punjabis, by the Union government, is intolerable and unwarranted due to which the state has vehemently raised this issue. The Chief Minister said that the Union government has insulted the great martyrs including Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru, Shaheed Sukhdev, Lala Lajpat Rai, Shaheed Udham Singh, Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, Mai Bhago, Ghadri Baabe and others by rejecting the tableau of the state.

He said that the union government has belittled their contribution and sacrifice of these heroes by not including their tableaus in the Republic Day parade. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this cannot be tolerated as it is the grave insult of these great patriots and national leaders adding that the state government has now duly showcased this immense contribution in tableaus across the state.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has decided to name the upcoming International Airport at Indian Air force Station Halwara, Ludhiana as Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha International Airport. He said that due to strenuous efforts of the state government, the Mohali International Airport has already been named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh adding that naming of Halwara airport after Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha will be a humble tribute to the martyr.

He further said that naming the airports, universities and other institutions in the name of these iconic martyrs is important to perpetuate their glorious legacy. Striking an emotional note with the people, the Chief Minister urged them to end gender discrimination amongst boys and girls.

He said that this is the need of hour to give wings to the girls for excelling in each and every field thereby enabling them to script new success stories. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the girls of the state are very brave and they can achieve any goal if they are given a chance.

The Chief Minister further said that Punjab produces 182 lakh Metric Ton of paddy by over exploiting its only available natural resources in terms of water and fertile soil. He said that then only the country has been made self-reliant in terms of food production due to which it has emerged as a strong nation across the globe.

However, Bhagwant Singh Mann bemoaned that conspiracies are being hatched to deprive the farmers of the state from the Minimum Support Price (MSP), which is discriminatory and pathetic. However, the Chief Minister said that Punjab was a frontrunner and Punjab will always continue to be that as Punjabis have been blessed with indomitable spirit of hard work and resilience.

He said that the state government is performing its duty meticulously and zealously to ensure that Punjab leads the country in every sphere. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that he is not worried for the next elections but he is working for the welfare of the next generation, due to which several path breaking initiatives have been taken.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is making concerted efforts for the welfare of the youth of the state. He said that the focus of his government is to ensure that youth become job givers instead of job seekers. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this is the need of hour to carve out a progressive and prosperous Punjab.

The Chief Minister said that during previous regimes the youth were deprived of jobs and education so that they make a beeline behind the political leaders. He said that this culture is being abandoned so that youth become an integral part of the progress and prosperity of the state.

Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the day is not far when due to strenuous efforts of the state government, the pristine glory of Punjab is restored. The Chief Minister said that due to all out efforts of the state government for the first time in the last 75 years canal water has reached at the tail end of the last field in the state. He said that the state government is duty bound for this noble cause so that farmers of the state are immensely benefitted from it.

Bhagwant Singh Mann said already due to strenuous efforts of the state government water has reached the far flung areas of Punjab. The Chief Minister said that to impart quality health services to people, the state government has set up Aam Aadmi Clinics in Punjab.

He said that around 97 lakh people have so far availed the facilities of free healthcare in these clinics. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this is a new revolution in the healthcare sector adding that efforts are afoot to give a facelift to this sector.

The Chief Minister further said that massive efforts are being made to impart quality education to the students. He said that the state government has established the first of its kind School of Eminence in the state and during the first year 8358 students have been enrolled in it. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that an amount of Rs 200 crores has been earmarked for developing school infrastructure and sports facilities, besides providing free uniforms to students. The Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to make Punjab a frontrunner state in the industrial sector. He said that due to concerted efforts of the state government investments worth Rs 65,000 crore has been firmed up in the state which will provide 2.98 lakh jobs to youth. Bhagwant Singh said that this will give further push to the economic development of the state by putting it on the path of high growth trajectory.

The Chief Minister said that to check the fatality rate due to road accidents in the state on one hand and to streamline the movement of traffic on the roads of the state on the other, the state government will launch Sadak Surakhya Force on January 27 from Jalandhar.

He said that the first of its kind specialized force will act as a pivotal to save several precious lives that are lost in road accidents daily in Punjab and this force will be entrusted with the task of checking rash driving, streamlining vehicular movement on roads and others to check the road accidents.

Bhagwant Singh Mann said that initially 129 vehicles equipped with ultra modern gadgets will be deployed after every 30 kilometres to man the roads and these vehicles will also have a complete medical kit for providing emergency treatment to any person in need.

The Chief Minister further said that the state government has given jobs to around 40,000 jobs to youth merely in 19 months and on an average the state government has given jobs to 23,432 youth in one year, which is a record in itself. He said that all the jobs have been given completely on the basis of merit by adopting a complete transparent process. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it is a matter of great pride that more than 50% of the jobs are bagged by the girls which are becoming active partners in the socio-economic progress of the state.

The Chief Minister said that Punjab has created history by purchasing Goindwal power plant owned by a private company GVK Power adding that it is named after the third Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Amar Dass ji. He said that for the first time this reverse trend has started that the government has purchased any private power plant whereas in the past the state governments used to sell their assets to the favorite individuals at ‘throw away’ prices. Likewise, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that 90% consumers in the state are getting zero power bill due to pro-people decisions of the state government.

The Chief Minister said that it is a matter of immense pride that pran pratishta of Sri Ram temple had taken place at Ayodhya adding that everyone should go at that place to pay obeisance. He said that Punjab is epitome of secularism and communal harmony across the country as since ages people from all sections are residing here peacefully.

Bhagwant Singh Mann though Ramzan is considered as a festival of muslim brethren but it is made up of two words Ram and zan which means it has the name of Ram too. Similarly, the Chief Minister said that Diwali- a festival of Hindu community too has the word ‘Ali’ in it which symbolizes communal harmony. Taking a jibe over parties towing communal agenda, he said that Aam Aadmi Party does not believe in divisive politics rather it works on principle of the welfare of all through ‘Politics of work’.

Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this is the foundation of a society and country based on principles of communal harmony, peace and brotherhood. The Chief Minister said that to facilitate the people for undertaking a visit to the pilgrimage site of their choice, the state government has started Mukh Mantri Teerth Yatra Scheme. He said that this ambitious scheme is benefitting every strata of society in a big way as they can travel to the pilgrimage sites free of cost. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this is an unprecedented scheme which has been embarked for the first time in the country by any state adding that though initially the Railways was trying to create hiccups in it but now the matter has been streamlined.

The Chief Minister called upon the people to come forward for carving out a Punjab of the dreams of our great Gurus, Saints, Seers, Martyrs and Heroes.
