In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police on Monday arrested a ‘big fish’ international smuggler identified as Harpreet Singh alias Happy, a resident of village Chawinda Kalan in Amritsar for his role in the smuggling of 40Kg heroin-consignment, which was recovered at Indo-Pak Border.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Dinkar Gupta said that the police have also recovered 1Kg heroin from the possession of Happy, who was arrested by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police from village Chheharta in Amritsar. Police have also impounded his Splendor Motorcycle, he added. 

 

Amritsar Rural Police had earlier foiled a major drug smuggling bid by recovering 39 packets of heroin, weighing 40.81 kg, in the Panjgraian Border Outpost (BOP) area of Amritsar on August 21, 2021.

DGP Dinkar Gupta said that the investigations carried out so far had pointed to Happy’s nexus with international-based drug smugglers and gangsters. “His (Happy) links with smugglers in Pakistan and smuggler Jagga, who works from Malaysia are also being deeply probed,” he added.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Vikram Jeet Duggal said that the police are carrying out further investigations to unravel the international drug supply network operating in the state.

 

Meanwhile, a case has been registered under section 21 of the NDPS act at Police Station Chheharta in Amritsar.

Radiology & Laboratory Diagnostic Services commences

Punjab Health & Family Welfare and Labour Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu, on Monday, inaugurated the Radiology and Laboratory Diagnostic Services in Mohali district, which will provide medical tests on 70 percent lower charges as compared to the private laboratories. These ultra-modern Radio Diagnostic and Laboratory Diagnostic Centers are being opened in various hospitals through Private-Public Partnership (PPP) mode, which were state wide launched by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh virtually.

Addressing the gathering at Civil Hospital prior to inaugurating the operations of these laboratories at district level, Health Minister Mr. Sidhu said, the Punjab government has initiated this project, with the total cost of around Rs. 80 crore, for the people with the objective of providing world class diagnostic services on affordable prices at round the clock, informing that the private hospitals have charging exorbitant prices for the same tests, while these state-of-the-art laboratories would provide these tests at 70 percent less charges. Through this project, the entire state has been divided into 6 parts to provide services of one MRI centre in each part and one CT scan centre in each district hospital.

The Health Minister further mentioned that all the existing government laboratories of the health department have been strengthened with modern machines procured at a cost of Rs.4 crore. 100 Lab Technicians have also been recruited to ameliorate and streamline the operations of these laboratories. 

Talking about the efforts taken by the state government to deal with Corona pandemic, the Cabinet Minister said that the state government has so far conducted 1.25 crore tests and more than one crore people have been vaccinated, 76 PSA plants have been set up and more than 8000 oxygen concentrators were given to various hospitals. He pointed out that the patients of deprived sections were treated free of cost and 44,000 Fateh kits were distributed. Despite the pandemic, the health department provided employment to more than 11,000 unemployed people, including doctors, paramedics and ministerial staff.

Among others who were present during the function, Director Health Services Dr. GB Singh, Director PHSC Dr. Manjit Singh, Director Family Welfare Dr. Andesh, Director Project Dr. R.S. Book exposes many aspects of society, system and working style of the rulers

Journalism in today's era is not easy. By practicing it continuously, it starts to feel like cruelty. While making news of events, it has to be cut ruthlessly keeping in view the space and time. When news of mass murder comes, the news has to be covered before shedding tears. Despite this, An old friend Manoj Dhiman retained his sensitivety. didn't let it die. He also preserved his innocence, which has become impossible in today's era. Manoj's fourth book is derived from Manoj's lifestyle. At present, read the news of the arrival of the book, the rest of the talk about Manoj Dhiman and also on his literary work we will discuss later in some seperate post. --Rector Kathuria

Journalist Manoj Dhiman, who has been associated with English journalism in Punjab for the past three decades, has authored another Hindi fiction book 'Yeh Makaan Bikau Hai' (a collection of short stories), which is yet to be formally released. But, this book has come in the market and it has become a topic of discussion as soon as it reached the hands of the readers.

In this short story collection, Dhiman has put his pen on almost all the subjects such as politics, religion, economic problems, social discrepancies, love, poor relations and media. He has also tried to translate the frustration, panic, fear, tragedy that have arisen in the human mind in a psychological manner. “The way all these topics are related to each other, in the same way, the short stories go on expressing the problems one after the other”, said Dr. Anil Kumar Pandey, Assistant Professor in the Department of Hindi, Lovely Professional University (LPU). 

Speaking about the short stories Dr Pandey said each story is complete in itself. He added the short stories exposes many aspects of the society, the system and the working style of the rulers. He said despite millions of efforts, corruption remained a part of social policy. Those who had the responsibility of checking corruption are doing the business of making it flourish. In the short story 'Sone Ki Murgi', the author has exposed the weaknesses of the police system on the pretext of the story of a businessman. How a 'case' is entangled and advantage is taken from it. Similarly, the author has talked about the incidents of stone pelting in the short story 'Naya Dhandha'. This short story speaks about the fate of an unemployed youth. In the short story 'Raja Aur Praja', the king himself becomes a God. If the king does a noble act, the people forget him. Now because every king wishes that the masses should be present his `darbar’ with the intention of giving him praise, then Indian politicians have the art of converting the noble deeds done by them into wrong deeds. The king did this to weaken the strong dam built to protect against floods.  

“As such, every short story is very close to the truth and today’s reality”, said Dr. Pandey, adding, “The author expresses the stories of his times with wide open eyes.”

How did the writing of the short story collection 'Yeh Makaan Bikau Hai' start? Replying to this question, Dhiman said that in the year 2020 during the Corona period, he joined the "Pathak Manch", a group of renowned Hindi writers on WhatsApp. Posting some short stories in "Pathak Manch" got an encouraging response from the readers, which led to the continuity of writing. In this way these short stories finally took the form of a book.

Dhiman has dedicated the book to the famous poet, playwright and critic Dr. Narendra Mohan. Manoj Dhiman said that Dr. Narendra Mohan had not only inspired him to publish the short stories in the form of a book but also got him to talk to his publisher - Academic Publication, Delhi. Dhiman said, "I will definitely regret for the rest of my life that Dr. Narendra Mohan said goodbye to this world forever before the book was published. Otherwise if he was alive today, the atmosphere of celebration would have been different when the book was published." 

Expressing his views, noted writer Kamlesh Bhartiya, former Vice President of Haryana Granth Academy, said, "The short stories come out of everyday events or situations of life. The compositions are related to the ground. Newspapers’ headlines, any turning point in politics or the life around us is all the world of Dhiman's short stories."

Renowned Hindi novelist of Punjab, Dr. Ajay Sharma, a recipient of the Shiromani Hindi Literary Award by the Punjab Government, said, "The  short stories tell a complete story. Such a technique is seen in very few short story writers." 

Anju Kharbanda, Sanchalika, Laghukatha Shodh Kendra, Bhopal (Delhi Branch) said, "While reading the short stories, the reader also go along with those short stories. The short stories are the sour and sweet experiences of life, which goes straight to the heart." 

Dr. Jawahar Dhir, President, Doaba Sahitya Evam Kala Akademi, Phagwara (Punjab) said, "The short stories are capable of conveying a big message in very few words." 

Rajesh Kumar of Academic Publication, Delhi, said the book carries short stories in day-today life and events. He hoped that the book will definitely make a special place in the Hindi literature. He said the book will soon be available on Amazon. 

The short story collection 'Yeh Makaan Bikau Hai' has a total of 164 pages and there are 120 short stories in it.

It may be mentioned here that Manoj Dhiman has penned three Hindi books earlier to the present one. These books were:  'Late Night Party' (story collection), 'Baarish Ki Boonden' (poetry collection) and 'Shunyon Ki Or' (novel). The English version of the book 'Late Night Party' has also been published. The English translation was done by Prof Shaheena Khan.

She alsotold that white spot in eye, lump in abdomen , unexplained fever, weightloss,  fatigue, easy bruising andbleeding are common signs of cancer in childhood. Unlike adult 80% childhoodcancers are completely treatable if detected early. Vigilance nabs lady Patwari/accomplice for taking bribe

Punjab Vigilance Bureau today nabbed a revenue Patwari and a private person red handed while accepting bribe of Rs.6,000.

Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said Amandeep Kaur, Revenue Patwari, posted at Bajewala in Mansa district and a private person Harjeet Singh, who is working as his assistant and driver, were nabbed red handed by Vigilance team for accepting bribe of Rs. 6,000 from complainant Raja Singh of village Bajewala, Mansa.

The complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said Patwari was demanding Rs. 12,000 for mutation of his land but the deal was struck at Rs. 10,000. He further informed that he had already paid Rs. 4000 as a first installment to the accused lady patwari.

After verifying his information, a team from Vigilance bureau Mansa laid a trap and the accused Patwari and her accomplice Harjeet Singh were arrested on the spot while accepting bribe of Rs. 6,000 of second installment from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Bathinda and further investigation was under progress.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday led the Vidhan Sabha in paying tribute to eminent personalities, freedom fighters, sports icons, political personalities besides senior officers of civil and police administration, who had passed away since the last session of the Assembly.

On the onset of one day special session of the 15th Vidhan Sabha to commemorate the 400th Prakash Purb of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji, the House paid respects to former Union Minister of State RL Bhatia, former Ministers Gurnam Singh Abul Khurana, Gulzar Singh, Surjit Kaur Kalkat, Chaudhri Radha Krishan and Inderjit Singh Zira, ex-Chief Parliamentary Secretary Jagdish Sawhney besides former MLAs Sukhdarshan Singh Marar and Jagraj Singh Gill.

The House also paid tribute to the martyr Sepoy Prabhjit Singh. Likewise, homage was also paid to the freedom fighters Kala Singh, Gurdev Singh, Ranjit Singh and Sulakhan Singh.

The House also paid glowing tributes to the iconic sports personalities Milkha Singh and Man Kaur (both athletes).

The House also remembered the former State Chief Secretary YS Ratra and Ex-DGP Mohd. Izhaar Alam.

The House also paid tributes to the founder of Centre for Research on Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID) Rashpal Malhotra.

The House also paid homage to Mahinder Kaur (Cabinet Rank) and former SGPC Member Kuldeep Singh Dhoss.

Meanwhile, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi proposed the names of Crickter Yashpal Sharma and ex-Captain Indian Volleyball Team Nirmal Milkha Singh, the wife of late Milkha Singh for obituary references.

Likewise, MLA Nabha Randeep Singh also proposed the name of martyr Gurjant Singh, MLA Raikot Jagtar Singh proposed name of martyr Sub Inspector Gurmukh Singh and MLA Adampur Pawan Kumar Tinnu also proposed the name of Chancellor, Baba Bhag Singh University Sant Baba Dilawar Singh to be included in the obituary list.

On the request of the aforesaid members of the House, the Speaker Rana Kanwar Pal Singh also consented to include these names to obituary references.

The House also paid rich tributes to the farmers who lost their lives during the ongoing farmers’ agitation against the central farm laws.

A two-minute silence was observed in the memory of departed souls as a mark of respect during the obituary references.

Meanwhile, the Speaker proposed that homage be paid to all those members who had passed away since the previous session. After the obituary references to the departed souls, he passed a resolution for conveying the condolences of the House to their respective families. The resolution was passed by voice vote.

Upgradation of Banga-Garhshankar-Sri Anandpur Sahib road

Pb. Govt. approves Rs 40 crore for the purpose

Tireless efforts of Member of Parliament from Sri Anandpur Sahib & former Union Minister Manish Tewari for the development of Sri Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha constituency have borne fruit as the Punjab Government has approved the upgradation of Banga-Garhshankar-Sri Anandpur Sahib road. In a press statement issued here today Mr. Tewari said that the Punjab Government has sanctioned Rs. 40 crore for this road development project.  

Lok Sabha Member Manish Tewari said that this road connects two holy cities Sri Amritsar Sahib and Sri Anandpur Sahib. This is also one of the main road connectivity routes for the devotees of Mata Naina Devi who go to Mata Naina Davi Mandir in Himachal Pardesh almost every year especially during the Savan Navratras. He especially thanked the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh for sanctioning this project which would benefit thousands of travelers and pilgrims. He said that this was one of the major demands of the people of Sri Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha Constituency. 

Mr. Tewari said that he has also strongly raised voice for upgradtion and strengthening of this important road in the Lok Sabha. He said that now this project has been approved by the Punjab Government for which he once again extended gratitude towards the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

Further disclosing the facts he said that Rs 40 crore has been approved for this road project and work would also start soon.
