Firing on RSS Punjab Chief Jagdish Gagneja


Grewal and others condemned hideous act of shooting

A shock wave prevailed after a fresh incident of violence.Two motorcycle-borne assailants shot at the Punjab vice-president of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Brigadier Jagdish Gagneja (retd), leaving him seriously injured in the heart of Jalandhar on Saturday night. Sensation prevailed in the state. The incident reportedly took place at 8.25 pm near Makhdumpura colony.
Peoples said that fleeing assailants also fired two shots in the air to intimidate people who were witness to the attack.
The police have recovered three empty cartridges from the spot.
Brigadier Gagneja is a well-known face of the RSS in Punjab. As seh-prant sanghchalak, he coordinated between the Punjab BJP, RSS and central leadership for all organisational and government affairs.
The RSS leader, who was accompanied by his wife Sudesh, was shot at when he was returning after shopping at Red Cross Market around 9pm. He stopped his Maruti Swift car to answer the call of nature a few metres from his car when the two men with faces covered also brought their motorcycle to a halt and shot at him. They were apparently following the RSS leader. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers fired three bullets that hit Brigadier Gagneja in the chest and stomach.
The youth fled after firing in the air, triggering panic in the busy market. They managed to flee despite the crowd and police nakas (checkpoints) in place.
Brigadier Gagneja was rushed to the nearby Patel Hospital, where his condition is critical. RSS and top state BJP leaders reached the hospital soon after. Additional police force was rushed when former minister and Jalandhar Central MLA Manoranjan Kalia rang up state DGP Suresh Arora. Police commissioner Arpit Shukla said efforts were no to arrest the attackers.
Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal condemned the attack and the CM ordered a team of experts from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, to reach Jalandhar to oversee Brigadier Gagneja’s condition. The CM also issued an appeal to the people to “maintain the hard-earned atmosphere of peace and communal harmony in the state at all costs”.
Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh too issued a statement that “such nefarious designs deserve to be nipped in the bud lest these push Punjab into anarchy”.

National Secretary Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha strongly condemned the hideous act of shooting RSS Punjab Chief Jagdish Gagneja in Jalandhar who is said to be critical  with 3 close range bullet injuries. Grewal said the state of Law and Order in Punjab is in shambolic state and one after one acts of crime by organised mafia of Punjab hints at political patronage of these organised criminals groups. Grewal further pointed out the series of deadly acts previously carried out by the mafia in Punjab in which Mata Chand Kaur of Namdhari samaj was shot from close range at bhaini Sahib and a few weeks later a convoy of Sikh preacher Sant Dhandriwale was attacked and in which his close was shot dead. Grewal said the state of security of life in Punjab is at lowest and it doesn't look like it will get better until the coming elections . Grewal asked the Home Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to come forward and take responsibility. Grewal said Brigadier Jagdish Jagneja is a national hero and fought wars for his country. He is a braveheart and this act won't detoriate his love for India and Punjab. He said we aIl pray for his early recovery.
