GADVASU inks MoU with Pharmacy College
Ludhiana-09-December, 2013: (Rector Kathuria//Punjab Screen) Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indo Soviet Friendship (ISF) College of Pharmacy, Moga. GADVASU a premier Veterinary University and ISF, College of Pharmacy have excellent facilities including infrastructure, and state of the art laboratories to deal with the research in pharmaceutics and pharmacology. It has also been agreed to extend cooperation to each other and promote education and research in the areas of herbal medicine, product and processes ,nutraceuticals and nanotechnology which in turn would be in the interests of the society, particularly the farming community, and livestock owners.
The MoU is going to boost the research in the herbal product formulation in Punjab. The MoU was signed by Dr V K Taneja, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU and Shri Janesh Garg, Secretary of ISF College of Pharmacy, Moga. Through the MoU both the institutes have agreed to develop novel herbal drug formulations with commercial viability. This collaboration will tap the potential of plant products with potential medicinal value in Punjab.
Giving details of the MoU, Dr Taneja revealed that GADVASU has recently developed few herbal therapies for animals by utilizing herbs of different kinds. Besides providing cheaper solution to livestock owners, the development of herbal drugs would encourage commercial production in the State and would give a better future to the farmers. He also said that both Pharmacy and Pharmacology are interdependent disciplines and there is a necessity of collaborative research in the field of drug discovery, development, standardization, and product formulations. The scientists of both the institutes together can play an important role in translating these research technologies into products and process. The research will yield optimum results beneficial to human, animals and environmental health.
On this occasion, Registrar, Deans and Directors of GADVASU and Principal, Director of ISF College of Pharmacy and scientists of both the institutes were present.
