While crime increases rapidly under the influence of drugs, the younger generation starts degrading in many ways. Where the youth trapped in the trap of drugs reach the world of crime, anti-national elements also start taking advantage of them. If we have a look at the campaign launched by the police, many horrifying pictures come to the fore. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has taken vigorous initiative to change this whole atmosphere.

Amid the ongoing decisive war against drugs launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police have arrested 241 drug smugglers/suppliers after registering 173 first information reports (FIRs), including 18 commercial, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act across the state in the last week.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Headquarters Sukhchain Singh Gill, while addressing his weekly Press Conference here on Monday, said that the Police have also recovered 5-Kg Heroin, 4.90-Kg opium, 5.92 quintals of poppy husk, and 1.95 Lakh tablets/capsules/injections/vials of Pharma opioids besides recovering Rs 7.89 Lakh drug money from their possession.

He said that with 13 more Proclaimed Offenders (POs)/Absconders in NDPS cases arrested in the last week, the total number of arrests reached 636 since the special drive to arrest POs/absconders was started on July 5, 2022.

Sharing monthly details on action taken against sellers trading in the Chinese Kite string, the IGP said that Police teams have recovered 11364 Chinese dor bundles after registering 234 First Information Reports (FIRs) and arresting 255 people indulged in selling this fatal kite flying string. As per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police will take strict action against those buying/selling Chinese kite flying string, he added.

Pertinently, Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab Gaurav Yadav had given strict instructions to all the CPs/SSPs to investigate backward and forward linkages minutely in each and every case, especially related to drug recoveries, even if they recover a meager amount of drugs.

Meanwhile, on the direction of Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Mann to make Punjab a drug-free state, extensive anti-drug drives have been launched by the Punjab Police to combat the menace of drugs from the border State. The DGP has also strictly ordered all the CPs/SSPs to identify all hotspots where drugs are prevalent and all top drug smugglers in their jurisdictions. He also directed the Police chiefs to effectively forfeit the property of all the arrested drug smugglers so that their ill-gotten money could be recovered.

DGP Dinkar Gupta Launches Mobile App in Ludhiana

Starting from Friday, landlords and owners would no more be required to visit Saanjh Kendras for verification of their servants and tenants as the Ludhiana Commissionerate Police has developed a Mobile Application for entire Punjab, which will allow the owners to register for the verification and pay fees using mobile phones, said Director General of Police Punjab Dinkar Gupta here. 

The DGP, who was in Ludhiana on Friday to inaugurate a series of police development projects, also launched a Mobile platform for quick and timely verification of servants, tenants and employees by owners as part of aggressive steps to control crime in the state.

With this dedicated application, people won’t need to visit Sanjh Kendera or police station for this purpose and they can do it at the comfort of their homes using their mobile phones, the DGP said urging people to get the police verification of the domestic helps done to ensure that some deterrence is there for the servants. He said in case the servant commits some crime and absconds, the details submitted during verification can help the police to trace the accused.

Giving further details, Commissioner of Police Ludhiana Rakesh Agrawal said the app has been specially developed keeping in view the recent theft cases by the servants. The app also has an additional and special feature for the verification of servants from Nepal, he added.

The CP said that this App would require owners to submit details of both employer and the servant including Applicant details along with Photo and ID proofs, Domestic help details along with Photo, ID proof, residence proof and other details whether he resides on or off premises besides information about Family members of domestic help and information of at least two referrals of the domestic help.

He said that after filling details, the applicant will get an OTP for authentication and then the latter will be redirected to the payment page. He disclosed that a very nominal fee of Rs 200 will be charged from the public for this service of police verification of the servants. Similarly, employers can also use this application for the verification of their employees, he added. The App can be downloaded from Google Play Store by searching PPSAANJH.

On the occasion, DGP Dinkar Gupta also held a crime review meeting with the police officials of Ludhiana Commissionerate. Ludhiana police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal apprised him about the crime pattern in the city area. He told him about various measures undertaken by police to control crime.

Citing that ahead of the State Assembly Elections,  the next six months are very challenging for the police, the DGP asked all the officers to be vigilant in wake of plans of inimical forces to disturb peace and communal harmony in the border state of Punjab.

He directed them to deploy round-the-clock Police Nakas and intensify checking of persons and vehicles. The DGP also asked the officers to go to the field and do human intelligence by developing sources, mapping police stations and keeping a tab on history sheeters, criminals out of Jail and other suspected persons.

Meanwhile, to dispose off the vehicles lying in Police Station compounds for years, DGP Dinkar Gupta also launched the Rule Book, which will guide in disposing off of the case property for disposal of such vehicles by following the respective CrPC and Punjab Police Act. The rule book has been compiled by PPS officer Gurdev Singh, the DGP said.

Ludhiana Police on Special Drive against illicit liquor

Cracking a whip on illicit liquor trading and smuggling Ludhiana Police seized and destroyed more than 2 Lakh Liters of Lahan (Kacchi Daru) on the banks of Satluj River on Ludhiana-Jalndhar border. Some wine contractors who are indulging in liquor smuggling in each other’s areas are also on police radar.
Police has launched a Special Drive about 20 days back to take strict action against all kinds of Liquor Smuggling, bootlegging and illicit distillation of liquor in Ludhiana as part of state wide directive from DGP Punjab.  For this purpose anAnti SmugglingCell has been constituted with dedicated manpower of 30 persons. A close co-ordination is also being made with the Excise Departmentto stop smuggling of bootlegging and smuggling of liquor.
Ludhiana Commissionerate Police has also effectively cracked down on the liquor smugglers and in last 20 days heavy quantity of licit and illicit liquor has been recovered. During this period 150FIRs have been registered under Excise Act and 171 smugglers have been sent behind bars with recoveryof 3266 Liters bottles of illicit liquor, 650 Liters of English Wine. Besides this2Working Stillsfrom which illicit liquor was being distilled after fermentation were also seized. Most of the known liquor smugglers have either been caught or have shifted from Ludhiana to other districts temporarily.
Police has also made lists of the known liquor smuggles who are again and again engaging in the illicit trade  of Liquor Smuggling and  bootlegging and have started to keep a strict watch on their activities.
Activities of these smugglers are also being monitored through the Safe City Camerasinstalled in the district. Special inter-District Nakas have been put in the Commissionerate, Ludhiana round the clock to monitor inter-district smuggling of liquor.
RakeshAgrawal CP Ludhianahas told his officers that strict action will be taken if any police person is found negligent or supporting any illegal activities in any manner relating to smuggling of liquor.
