National Medical Commission’s (NMC) Nodal Centre for Faculty Development, CMC, Ludhiana is conducting three-day course on revised basic course  workshop (rBCW) in medical education which is mandatory for faculty in medical colleges. Dr. William Bhatti, Director, CMC while inaugurating the program, highlighted need for continuous training for faculty in medical colleges and appreciated the efforts of faculty for attending the training courses for teachers in medical colleges. Dr Jeyaraj D Pandian, Principal, CMC welcome the participants from new colleges of Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab for the onsite training and emphasised that for teaching in new competency based MBBS curriculum in India, teachers in medical colleges need this training. He explained the role of CMC Ludhiana as a beacon in medical education in training the faculty of allocated 28 medical colleges in basic course and 66 medical colleges in advance course. Dr. Dinesh Badyal, Convener of NMC nodal centre, CMC informed that Department of medical education faculty is training 3o doctors in team building, principles of learning and competencies, assessment, interactive large group teaching, and AETCOM ( attitude, ethics & communication) module as per new competency based MBBS curriculum introduced in the country in 2019. RBCW has restarted in offline version after a gap of 5 months. The trained teams will conduct rBCW  in 28 medical colleges allocated to Nodal Centre, CMC, Ludhiana under observership of Nodal Centre, CMC. Dr Badyal informed that this course has  now become part of promotion criteria for faculty working in medical colleges.  Dr. Badyal is Member, NMC Task Force  for implementation of new MBBS curriculum. Dr. Anjali Jain, Professor, Department of Anatomy, Co-convener and incharge rBCW informed that the program is being held following strict COVID appropriate behaviour. She added that various activities are being used for innovation in training of teachers who are members of Medical Education Units (MEU) of new medical colleges.  The program resource faculty included Dr Dinesh Badyal, Dr. Anjali Jain, Dr. Bharti Uppal, Dr. Roma Isaac, Dr. Kavita Mandrelle, Dr. Pamela K. Alice, Dr. Aroma Oberoi, Dr. Gagandeep Kwatra, Dr. Maria Thomas, Dr. Christina George, Dr. Clarence Samuel and Dr. Deepshikha Kamra.

KLF backed terror-module busted in Punjab

Punjab Police on Tuesday has busted another targetted killing module backed by Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) handlers based abroad with the arrest of its 4 operatives, including a former Indian Army Sepoy, who had managed to escape from Patiala Jail in April 2021.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Dinkar Gupta said that accused Jaspreet Singh alias Noopi, who had joined the Indian Army as a Sepoy in 2012, was lodged in Jail in a murder case in 2017. “After escaping from Jail, Noopi came in contact with foreign based KLF handlers who  motivated and induced him to raise a terror module to carry out targeted killings in the state,” he said.

The other three arrested persons have been identified as Jaswinder Singh, a resident of village Fatehpur Bunga in Ropar, Gaurav Jain alias Minku of village Kaliawala in district Sirsa and Parshant Silelan alias Kabir, a native of Meerut UP and presently staying at Dhanas in Chandigarh, the DGP added.

Sharing details, SSP Khanna Gursharan Singh Grewal said that, following inputs, the Khanna Police had stopped an Etios car during a special checking at GT Road Khanna and three persons, who got out of the car, tried to flee after opening fire at the Police Party. However, the Police party managed to nab Jaswinder and Minku on the spot, while Noopi was arrested later, alongwith Kabir, his another accomplice.

The Police have also recovered two .32 bore Pistols, alongwith 4 magazines and ammunition from the possession of accused persons besides an Etios car bearing fake registration number PB01AS6845, which had been snatched by Noopi at gunpoint from Zirakpur last month.

DGP Dinkar Gupta said that, during investigations, Noopi confessed to have snatched the Etios car, besides looting Rs 50000 from a Petrol pump in Kharar on July 3, 2021, with the help of his associates.

“Noopi disclosed that he had come in contact with militant anti-India individuals and elements based abroad with links to KLF terrorist outfit, who had funded him from abroad for carrying out target killings in Punjab and also arranged Pistols for him from UP to carry out terror acts in Punjab,” said DGP Dinkar Gupta, while adding that Noopi also did recce of sensitive targets in Punjab towards in pursuance of his violent intentions.

SSP Khanna said that preliminary investigations had revealed that the module had received funding from abroad via various digital platforms including Western Union, Paytm etc and foreign handlers also provided three weapons to the module from Rudrapur in Uttrakhand. Further investigations are on, he added.

Meanwhile, an FIR no. 140 dated 04.07.21 has been registered under sections 379-B, 411/34, 307, 332 and 336 of the IPC and section 25 of the Arms Act at City-2 Police Station Khanna.

Takht Jathedar’s Role Serves ‘Love-Jihad’

 Kendri Singh Sabha criticized Jathedar’s Role in Kashmiri Sikh Girl

The way Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh intervened in the issue of Kashmiri Sikh girl’s alleged religious conversion and marriage to a Muslim clearly went to serve Sangh Parivar’s sectarian agenda of 'Love-Jihad' political agenda.

Sikh intellectuals associated with the Kendri Singh Sabha here said That in a letter to the Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor the Jathedar sought the implementation in the state of “an interfaith marriage law of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh against forcible conversion and for the safety of Sikh minority girls there”.  

Besides that, the Jathedar’ addressing the J&K Lt Governor as “Your Excellency” lowering to the dignity of the Akal Takht which is the highest religio-temporal authority among the Sikhs. As per Sikh religious principles and traditions, the Jathedar should not acknowledge any worldly authority as supreme except than the All-pervading Akal-Purkh represented by the Akal Takht.

Most of the Sikhs feel that their religious sensibilities have been hurt as some self-proclaimed Delhi Sikh leaders aligned with the ruling BJP made the Jathedar write the letter which fits into the Sangh Parivar's political program of projecting a certain minority as an 'aggressor' and pitting other minorities against that.

The intellectuals said the Jathedar should not talk in terms of enacting or implementing anti-conversion laws when the Sikh religion do not subscribe and acknowledge the practice of religious conversion Adopting “divide and rule” as a strategy in India, the British rules promoted religion identity of Indians as a marker of demographic strength and representation of the communities by holding decennial Census in 19th century. The Indian rules have been following that ‘divide and rules’ and polarization and exercise more vigorously now.

Kashmiri Sikh Girls Issue Blown Up to Serve BJP?

 The way is serving the BJP’s political tool of ‘Love Jihad

Giving due weightage and respect to the religious sensibilities of parents of Kashmir Sikh girls and Sikhs around, the Sikh intellectuals said that the way the issue of Sikh girls’ marriage with Muslims blown up out of proportion was nothing else but serving the BJP’s political tool of ‘Love Jihad.

The Delhi Sikh leaders whipped up the issue, no doubt, with an aim to present a minority as “aggressor” thereby segregating it as required by the BJP to consolidate the majority community as a Sangh Privaar’s vote bank.   

It is a known fact that every religious community in India opposes both inter-religious and inter-caste marriages. There is a slight difference in rigidity Shown by different religious communities on this count. The Indian Muslims follow this perception and practice not in less Measure.

The point of concern here is that the Delhi Sikh leaders intentionally kicked up a religious frenzy over the Kashmiri girls issue by competing one another in holding demonstrations at Jammu and Kashmir House in the Capital and later flying to Srinagar to meet the aggrieved families there.

The intellectuals gathered at the campus of Kendri Singh Sabha said activities of the Sikh leaders are objectionable as they were too loud to hide the motive of playing the political game of polarisation for and on behalf of the ruling BJP. Regrettably, the Delhi Sikh leaders posed as if they were representing the entire Sikh community while attempting to push the Sikhs against another minority which is now on the hit list of the Hindutva forces. The leaders of Muslim Community should rather take pro-active steps that Kashmir type religiously sensitive incidents should not be allowed to take place and should be tackled timely before hijacked by the vested interests.   

We oppose the Delhi Sikh leaders’ actions and exaggerated pronouncements created problems for local Kashmiri Sikhs and stoked communal tension thereby serving the BJP rulers’ broader strategy of segregating the targeted minority to strengthen Hindutva brand of Indian nationalism.

5-day FDP in Apparel Design concludes at NIIFT, Ldh.

A five day Online Faculty Development Programme in Apparel Design (Elementary) successfully culminated at the Department of Fashion Design Knits, Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT) Ludhiana. The FDP was sponsored by ATAL Academy, which is a brainchild of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Govt. of India. Dr. Girdhari Lal Garg, Assistant Director, ATAL Academy, was the chief guest for the valedictory function. He said that Apparel Design is a creative field, with lucrative jobs on offer and congratulated the participants over successful completion of the online training, during the pandemic. Dr. Garg appreciated the initiatives of NIIFT for successful conduct of the progamme through online mode. The programme covered various aspects of Apparel Design, right from concept of designing till final garment production. While presenting the report, Mr. Harpreet Singh, Coordinator, Online ATAL FDP stated that, the total 15 sessions of two hours each, including one compulsory session on Emotional Intelligence, were held during the five days programme. Dr. Poonam Aggarwal Thakur, Principal, NIIFT in her closing remarks expressed gratitude towards the key resource persons involved in making the FDP a success. She appreciated the efforts of team and stated that this is only the beginning; NIIFT shall walk a long way ahead. Mr. Rakesh Kumar Kansal, Registrar, NIIFT, Ludhiana was also present during the valedictory function. 182 faculty members, research scholars, assessors and industry personnel, from premier textile and fashion institutes representing almost every state of the country registered for this programme and benefitted from it.

Man, whose ID used to rent flat for slain gangsters’

Punjab Police has today arrested the Haryana-based man whose credentials and documents were used to hire a flat for the hideout of slain gangsters-turned-drug smugglers Jaipal Bhullar and Jaspreet Singh alias Jassi in Kolkata. The arrested person has been identified as Sumit Kumar, a resident of Meham in Haryana.

The development came three days after Jaipal Bhullar and Jaspreet Jassi were neutralised by the STF West Bengal Police, after they fired on the West Bengal Police party when they raided their flat in Kolkata. 

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Counter Intelligence and Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) Amit Prasad said that they have managed to nab Sumit, a close associate cum business partner of Bharat Kumar, who helped Jaipal Bhullar and Jassi in escaping from Morena, Gwalior and arranged hideout for them in Kolkata, after they killed two ASIs Bhagwan Singh and Dalwinderjit Singh of Jagraon Police at grain market, Jagraon on May 15, 2021 evening.

Bharat was arrested with .30 bore pistol and Honda Accord car from near Shambhu Border in Rajpura area on June 9 and on his disclosures, Punjab Police gave information to the West Bengal Police that the gangsters duo, Jaipal and Jassi, that they were holed up in a rented apartment in Kolkata.

The ADGP said that preliminary investigations had found that both Sumit Kumar and Bharat Kumar, who were business partners since 2015, were involved in illegal sale of fancy mobile numbers, including mobile numbers of foreign based telecoms, purchased from different countries and other states, and they used to sell them across Punjab, Haryana at exorbitant rates.

He said that Bharat was also found to be in possession of an official ID of Constable Amarjit Singh, which was being used to evade toll plazas while escaping from Gwalior. “Although, Bharat claimed that Constable Amarjit is his and Sumit’s mutual friend, the Police are investigating why he was having possession of Amarjit’s official ID and if the latter had any knowledge about his official ID being misused by Bharat,” said ADGP Amit Prasad.

Meanwhile, further investigations are being carried out to investigate the role of Bharat and Sumit in criminal actions and activities.

Twelve More AFPI Cadets Become Officers on 12 June

Twelve AFPI alumni cadets passed out on completion of training at the Indian Military Academy, Dehra Dun today and earned their commission in the Indian Army in the rank of Lt. The parade was reviewed by Lt Gen RP Singh, Army Commander Western Command. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, parents of the cadets were not invited to witness the parade.

So far 162 cadets from the first eight courses have joined NDA or other service academies and of these 83 have earned their commission in the armed forces. 68 cadets have joined the Army; eight have gone to the Navy and seven to the Air Force. Two more cadets are expected to join the Air Force on 19 June when the passing out Parade of the Air Force Academy is to be held.

These cadets had joined the Armed Forces Preparatory Institute, Mohali in 2015 as part of the Fifth AFPI Course. They joined the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla in 2017 as part of the 138th NDA Course. On completion of three years of rigorous training at NDA they joined the IMA for the final year of service training.

Academy Cadet Adjutant Loveneet Singh distinguished himself by winning the Bronze medal for standing third in the overall order of merit of the passing out course. Loveneet belongs to Jalalabad East and his father Sardar Bhupinder Singh is a farmer. His mother Smt Parveen Kaur is a house wife. He will be joining the 7th Battalion of the Sikh Light Infantry.

In the past cadets of AFPI have distinguished themselves by winning various medals in service academies. Lt Harpreet Singh (Scinde Horse) was awarded the Sword of Honour and Gold medal at the Officer’s Training Academy in Mar 2020 and Lt Gurvansh Singh Gosal (Sikh Regiment) was awarded the Bronze medal at the Indian Military Academy in Dec 2018. Alumni of AFPI who are now officers are earning great laurels in the service of the nation. Capt Vishavdeep Singh who is in the Special Forces was awarded a Sena Medal for gallantry in Jan 2021 and Lt Jasmeet Singh Bamrah, Jak Rif, was awarded the Chief of Defence Staff Commendation Card for operations in Galwan Valley.

Currently three courses are undergoing training at AFPI. The Ninth Course of 39 cadets has completed its two years of training recently. Selected cadets of this course will be joining the NDA shortly once the merit list is released by UPSC. The Tenth Course of 50 cadets is now studying in Class 12 and will be appearing for the NDA entrance exam in Sep this year. The Eleventh Course of 42 cadets has recently joined AFPI and commenced training last month.

Since March last year all training has been in the online mode due to Covid 19. This severe restriction notwithstanding, the Institute has been able to send as many 28 cadets to NDA and other academies during the period Jan 2020 to May 2021.

With effect from this year AFPI has commenced the long awaited Cadet Training Wing programme. This programme envisages reaching out to various selected schools in Punjab for training and motivating students of these schools for joining the armed forces. Over 100 students studying in Class 11 and Class 12 have already enrolled in this new venture which is expected to substantially increase the number of young men joining the armed forces in the years ahead.
