CT University organized Cancer Awareness and Check up camp

CT University Ludhiana in association with World Cancer Care Organization organized Cancer Awareness cum Check Up Camp in association with World Cancer Care Organization on 16 April 2017. The camp was majorly emphasized on Medical Check Up and distribution of medicines free of cost. There were six buses equipped with ultra modern equipment at this event. The Camp was inaugurated by S. Charanjit Singh Chani Chairman CT Group, S. Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal Chairman World Cancer Care, S. Jaswant Sigh Grewal Advisor World Cancer Care, Mr. Dharminder Dhillon MD world Cancer Care, Mrs. Parminder Kaur Co-Chairman CT Group, and Dr. Davinder Singh Sandhu Cancer Specialist.

More than 2000 people from approximately 100 villages participated in the camp. Besides people from Jagraon, Ludhiana, Raikot and Moga cities also came to take benefit of this camp. CT University provided free buses for patients to bring them to the camp. It is to be noted that the Malwa region topped the cancer list, with 14,682 of the 33,318 deaths in 2015. The unusually high incidence, especially in the cotton growing districts of south-western Punjab, has been linked to the use of pesticides by cotton farmers, among other factors. Malwa consumes 75% of the pesticides used in Punjab, shows the State Council for Science and Technology’s State of Environment Report. Under its CSR initiative, CT University and World Cancer Care organized this camp to help the poor and underprivileged people of this region. CT University is a multi-disciplinary, student-centric, research-focused University offering a full range of academic programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level. CTU’s multi-disciplinary curriculum provides students a strong foundation in disciplines in the Design and Innovation, Humanities and Linguistics, Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Pharmaceutical and Allied Medical Sciences, Education, Management, Hotel Management, Airlines, and Tourism while enabling them to expertise in their own field. ‘Depression: Let’s Talk’ Campaign held

Manojigyasa-a society of psychology students of Govt. College for Girls, Ludhiana organized a function on the theme ‘Depression: Let’s Talk’ to create awareness about the problem of depression, its causes, consequences, prevention and its treatment. According to WHO, India has the highest suicide rate among 10 South-East Asian countries and depression is one of the leading causes for this. Globally, it is the biggest cause of ill health and disability, says WHO. In South-East Asia region, a massive 86 million people are affected by depression.

As part of the campaign Poster Making and Model Making Competitions were held. College principal, Prof. (Dr.) Mohinder Kaur Grewal was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal, a Consultant Clinical Psychologist who is an alumnus of the college and a Ph.D. from Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi was the key speaker on the occasion. Both the dignitaries were accorded floral welcome by Annie Garg and Bhanvi Mudgal, President and General Secretary respectively of Psychology Society.  Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal spoke about how negative self-schemas and cognitive distortions cause depression and how Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is helpful in overcoming depression. Prof. (Dr.) Mohinder Kaur Grewal, the principal of the college, appreciated the efforts put up by the students of psychology under the guidance of Dr. Rajiv Kumar Sehgal, Head of the Psychology Department and Mrs. Parminder Nijjer. Speaking on the occasion, the principal said that such awareness campaigns are helpful in overcoming the stigma associated with depression and will lead more people to get help. Others present on the occasion included college Staff Council members, Mrs. Sharanjit Kaur, Dr. (Mrs.) Manju Sahni, Mrs. Paramjit Kaur, Mrs. Varinderjit Kaur, Dr. (Mrs.) Ravinder Kaur.

The Department of Fine Arts, Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women, Ludhiana organized the Annual Art Exhibition on March 28, 2017. Ms. Poonampreet Kaur (PCS), Deputy Director Local Government was the chief guest on this occasion. Mrs. Naresh Jain W/o. Sh. Sukhdev Raj Jain, Chairman, college Managing Committee was the guest of honor. Ms. Neelam Dawar W/o. Sh. Surinder Dawar, MLA from Ludhiana District and Mrs. Neelam Jain W/o. Sh. Nand Kumar Jain, President, college Managing Committee, and Mrs. Abha Jain, daughter-in-law of Sh. Nand Kumar Jain graced the occasion with their benign presence. The exhibition featured the skillful works of the undergraduate students of the college. They did their best to showcase the maximum variety of the mediums and disciplines within the preview of visual arts such as still life, ink sheets, oil sheets, posters, landscapes, chowki and clay modeling. The major attractions of the exhibition were the wonderful pieces of art made from so-called waste or discarded products. Appreciating the efforts of the students PCS Poonam Preet Kaur said, “Such exhibitions provide a platform to the upcoming artists to exhibit their talent. Aladdin-The Musical

The Music and Theatre Workshop of Christian Medical College Ludhiana, under the patronage of Dr. Abraham G. Thomas, is going to organize its 22nd Production, “ALADDIN: THE MUSICAL” to be staged in Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan for three days starting from 23rd to 25th of March, 2017. Every year, the students of various colleges from Christian Medical College society join together to nurture the age old tradition that CMC is passing on. The main aim of doing this musical is to raise funds to aid patients who belong to the weaker section of society and need financial assistance for medical treatment.

This year the Aim with which the students have stepped in to raise funds is for patients who need to undergo Corneal Transplantations and to make people aware about Eye donation,  realizing the fact that we can bring light to the life of others.

“Aladdin: The Musical” is based on the theatrical adaptation of  the 1992 Disney movie ALADDIN.This Musical is enacted by a team of around 200 students from the Christian Medical College, Christian Dental College, College Of Nursing, College Of Physiotherapy and students of the Allied Health Science. This includes the  cast, choir, choreography, instrumentation, Props & Sets, costumes, sounds, Lights etc.

It will be a wonderful experience to watch the ingenious sets, the scintillating choreography and the songs sung to theatrical perfections!

Closing Ceremony of Commerce Society and Consumer Forum 

Ludhiana: 21 March 2017: (Punjab Screen Bureau)::

  Department of commerce organized the closing ceremony of commerce society and consumer forum at Govt. College for Girls, Ludhiana in the college auditorium. Prof. (Dr.) Pushpinder Singh Gill, Professor at the school of management studies, Punjabi University Patiala came as the chief guest on the occasion. He was accorded a warm welcome by College Principal Prof. (Dr.) Mohinder Kaur Grewal and Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Head of Commerce department.

 On this occasion, Dr. Gill delivered a lecture on "Future of Marketing". He threw light on converting the traditional methods of 4P's (Product, Price, Place and Promotion) to 4C's (Customer, Cost, Convenience, Communication) respectively. There was an interactive session with the students in which the guest speaker answered the queries of the students. The Students of commerce department mesmerized the audience with a beautiful cultural program. A musical skit on demonetization, welcome song, PPT on consumer awareness were main highlights of the program.   The principal of the college Prof.(Dr.) Mohinder Kaur Grewal and chief guest appreciated the teachers and students of commerce department and gave away trophies and certificate to the winners. A vote of thanks was proposed by Shivangi, President of the commerce Society.
