Doctor’s day was celebrated today on 29th June 2014 in IMA House Ludhiana to Honour the legendary physician and the second chief minister of West Bengal, Dr. B. C Roy who was awarded highest civilian award Bharat Rattan. The IMA affirmed its commitment to the care of sick and the infirm through participation in various health programmes for the society.
In the morning a blood donation camp was organized in the IMA House in collaboration with Civil Hospital. The donated blood was handed over to blood transfusion officer civil hospital Ludhiana Dr. Ramandeep Kaur.
Dr. B S Mangat, Dr. Avinash Jindal, Dr. Vishal Garg, Dr. Harish Kirpal & Mr. Sudhir Kumar from IMA Ludhiana donated the blood along with many others.
S. Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria Mayor Municipal Corporation Ludhiana was the Chief Guest at the evening function. He was presented a memorandum concerning various problems faced by the doctors of the city. In his address he assured the doctors of full cooperation to address their issues. He felicitated several senior doctors of the city for their services to the Association, profession and the society.
Many doctors, their spouses  and children presented music, dance and IMA House was brought alive with the cultural programme.

Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria, Dr. L S Chawla recipient of Dr. B.C Roy award and founder vice chancellor Baba Farid University of health sciences Punjab, Dr. R K Sharma President IMA Ludhiana & Dr. Deepak Parasher Secretary IMA Ludhiana and other office bearers  presented the Senior Doctors with certificate of Honour and bouquets and lauded their role in serving IMA, society and humanity.
The audience was mesmerized by the melodious songs and Ghazals sung by many doctors.
The event ended on a colourful note with high tea and refreshments.

Improper care may affect adversely in summer-Vet Varsity Expert

Summer is a challenging season to poultry farming. For the hot summer months there are many precautions which need to be taken right from the onset of rising temperature. The information was shared by Dr. Samita saini of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University. She said that Poultry birds do not have sweat glands and have thick cover of feathers. During summer months the birds consume less feed and more water due to which their growth rate, egg production, egg shell quality and hatchability are all adversely affected and mortality is high. Disease incidence in the flocks also increases because of wet litter, immuno-suppression, vaccination failures and contamination of drinking water. 
Dr. Saini said that there should be a grass cover on the grounds surrounding the poultry house which will reduce the reflection of sunlight into the house. Vegetation should be kept trimmed to avoid blocking air movement and to help reduce rodent problems. Shady trees should be located where they do not restrict air movement. Keep a reliable, clean, cool source of water available to help the birds cope with high temperatures. As the birds excrete electrolytes during periods of heat stress, electrolytes can be added to the drinking water to replace those that are lost and to stimulate water consumption. The number of waterers and frequency of watering should be increased in summer months.
While purchasing new stock the time of purchase should be adjusted in such a way that the productive stage should not come during acute summer months. Before the onset of summer season the unproductive and weak birds should be removed and stocking density should be reduced. During summer season nutrient intake by the birds should be increased by increasing nutrient density, feeding birds during colder part of the day and adjust ventilation fans to provide more cooling during the evening. Feed withdrawal from 9am to 4.30 pm is very effective in reducing heat stress mortality. Feed intake and digestion produce nearly 7% additional heat in the body which is maximum 4 to 5 hours after feed intake. This should not coincide with hottest part of the day (2 to 3 pm) Birds fasted in the day compensate intake in the night time. Crude Protein level in feed should not be increased and protein from only vegetable source should be used. 
Preventive treatment through drinking water should be given. In moderate hot weather, Ascorbic acid, Acetylsalicylic acid, Sodium bi carbonate and Potassium chloride can be given in drinking water to maintain electrolyte balance. In heat stress, Vit. C and Electrolytes may be used.  Egg collection frequency at the farm should be increased and cold room should be available for egg storage in hot summer months.

This move would fuel inflation and is against every promise he made in the election campaign. Higher freight charges will drive up the price of coal which will, in turn, make electricity more expensive. The already high prices of fruits and vegetables will rise even further. The fare hike could not have come at a more inappropriate time. Food prices are already on the rise. Global crude oil prices are increasing because of the conflict in Iraq, which will further push up inflation in India. MTSM students outshine in  PU Examination

Students of Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women, Ludhiana brought laurels to college by showing excellent performance in final examination of BCOM 1st   Year held in April 2014, conducted by Panjab University Chandigarh.  Manpreet Kaur stood first in college with 441 marks (80. 18%). Kirti    secured second position with 438 marks (79.64%), and   Vandana  got third position in college with 437 marks (79.46%).  President S. Swaran Singh and   Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Parveen Kaur Chawla congratulated the students who worked hard to achieve their goals   and faculty members for their excellent guidance and teaching.

Ludhiana:The students of Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women brought laurels to the college in the result of B.Com.-1st year. Navneet Kaur bagged 1st position in college by securing 77.82% marks,  Veerawali  got 2nd position in the college by securing 74.91% marks &  Ashu bagged 3rd position in college by securing 73.63% marks. The pass percentage of the college is 97.40%.

Are 'Vision of Inclusive Development' Truthful ?

*NDA Government must hear the People's Organisation from Narmada Valley, before decision on SSP

Today seems to be critical day for Narmada. When Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has expressed his commitment to take the country forward with his 'Vision of Inclusive Development', it is an absolutely obnoxious contrast that the new government has not given us any hearing nor has it taken any time nor made any attempt to know the ground reality, before deciding to go forward with Sardar sarovar Dam construction to its final height.

Sardar Sarovar Dam at its present height itself has 2 lakh people in its affected region, so if the height is raised by installing 17 meters high gates, the densly populated villages in Nimad Madhya Pradesh with houses, farms, shops, temples, mosques, standing crops etc. will face a watery grave. Adivasi villages in the hills in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat habitating hundreds of families are also to be further submergedd. Altogether not less than 2.5 lakh people, farmer, fishworkers, potters, shopkeepers will face a deluge and devastation, without rehabilitation, if the height is raised from 122 meters to 139 meters!

Will NDA Government permit such an injustice to be caused in violation of Narmada Water Dispute Tribunal Award as well as Supreme Court judgements? Anandiben

Patel, CM, Gujarat has announced that today, in the NCA meeting, “verbal permission” will be granted and then the formalities will be completed within a week's time. She has claimed that no party state has any objection to raising the height. This is obviously neither true nor transparent. None of the concerned new ministers, Uma Bhartiji, Paraksh Javadekarji or Thavarchand Gehlot have looked into all the reports, detailed data as well as the ground level situation. While two of them belong to Madhya Pradesh and one to Maharashtra. Will it be wrong to expect that they, give us a hearing and also assess the reality themselves. Their visit to the valley could go a long way. 

How could the government deal with such a grave situation and go ahead just because Mr. Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister. May we remind all the Ministries that they have to first appraise the social and environmental impacts and judge serious non-compliance themselves. The latest news is that Mrs. Patel, CM has reached the dam site in Gujarat as if the decision is already taken....what a political expediency and breach of every principle of democracy and justice.

PPCB Causing Undue Harassment to Electroplating Industry

Sh. Avtar Singh, President CICU in a statement released today said that:

Ø  14 different teams formed by Punjab Pollution Control Board carried out intensive survey of electroplating related industries in Ludhiana.

Ø  PPCB officials directed all electroplating related industrial units to install meters on water outlet supply through submersible pump or water connection of Municipal Corporation.

Ø  This is a very futile exercise which is not at all connected with controlling water pollution.

Ø  Water supply through different sources is used by these industrial units for different purposes such as manufacturing process, drinking, toilet cleaning, cooling etc.

Ø  PPCB is not concerned with entire water in take but for proper treatment of effluents in water mainly used in the manufacturing process.

Sh. Charanjit Singh Vishwkarma, President United Cycle Parts & Manufacturing Association said that this highly uncalled for and unrealistic direction has caused great resentment and created panic in the entire electroplating industry. Such type of policies being framed by PPCB are anti industry and one can not hope that any new electroplating industry will ever come up in the Punjab State.

Both of them have requested and urged upon Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sh. Parkash Singh Badal to instruct the chairman PPCB not to introduce measures in the guise of controlling pollution which are causing undue harassment to the electroplating industry already reeling under adverse economic scenario.

GADVASU: Press Briefing Regarding Students Strike

Students should must complete their degrees first

Final year B.F.Sc. students and some former pass outs of college of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) are on strike since 2.6.14 in protest against the State Government for not providing jobs to the fisheries graduates. Since the inception of the College of Fisheries, university is continuously making efforts for the placement of their students in public as well as private sector. University had been the major driving force in getting B.F.Sc. included as basic qualification for the entry level post of Fisheries Officers in State Fisheries Department. Meeting of the students with honourable Chief Minister of Punjab were also arranged to make the state government aware of the scientifically trained fisheries human resource produced by College of Fisheries, GADVASU, so that they may be absorbed in appropriate fisheries development projects or schemes of the State. The honourable Chief Minister of Punjab has also asked the fisheries graduates to come forward with promising self employment projects in fisheries as young entrepreneurs, either individually or in groups, and has assured them to provide financial assistance for the same. 

The university authorities are in constant contact with the students on strike from the very first day to convince them that university is equally concerned with their future prospects and has been doing all possible efforts for their placement. The students were advised to resume their classes and complete their degree, which is due to complete in July, 2014. The Registrar, Dr. P.D. Juyal, Director Student’s Welfare, Dr. S.P.S. Sangha, Dean, College of Fisheries, Dr. Asha Dhawan, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Dr. H.S. Sandhu and Dr. Nidhi Sharma, the Warden of Girls hostel, met the students many times to listen to their demands and assure them all support from the university in finding suitable placements in future. While returning from New Delhi after an official tour, Dr. Asha Dhawan went directly to meet the students in late night hours. She also assured them of extending all possible help and guidance for placement in fisheries sector in near future. But the students were not ready to listen to any one and kept on insisting to press the government in advertising the posts of Fisheries Officers, available in State Fisheries Department. The Dean also issued an appeal to the students for a meeting the next day to discuss the matter in detail. She also advised the students to resume their classes and get their degrees in time so that they become eligible for future placement, but the students were not ready to call off their strike. 

They have also been advised time to time by the Dean, College of Fisheries and other university official not to stay outside during the nights, as it is not safe with respect to security and health of the students. The respective families of the students were also informed about their activities and parents of the girl students were also conveyed that it is not safe for their daughters to stay out on the road during night hours. But neither the students nor their parents paid any attention to repetitive calls and requests of the authorities.  They are sitting outside the university premises on their own risk. However, the university has deputed their security personals and female attendants for the safety of students during the nights, while local administration has also provided security, to the students. The university authorities are worried for the welfare and safety of their students, but it is unfortunate to know that they are blaming the University for pressurising them for calling off the strike and giving misleading false derogatory remarks in the media.

DR. V. K. Taneja, Vice Chancellor, met the students outside the Pal auditorium after the convocation of College of Veterinary science and conveyed them that university had been in constant touch with the state government for their employment and will continue to make further efforts for the same, both in State and private sector. He further informed that the State Government has submitted a project worth Rs. 320 crores to the Government of India for strengthening of fish production the State under the protein supplement mission. The project is likely to be sanctioned and shall make available various jobs for fisheries graduates. He further added that another fisheries project with ample job opportunities is in the pipe line for submission to the State government and advised the students to keep patience and resume their classes so that they may complete their degrees in time. 

Dr. K. M. L. Pathak, Deputy Director General (Animal Science) ICAR, New Delhi, who was in the campus as chief guest for the convocation of College of veterinary Science,  assured the students for the early sanction of the project submitted by the State and also informed them various schemes launched by ICAR for the benefit of the students. He further encouraged the students to earn ICAR and other national fellowships/scholarships for higher studies and better job prospects globally. 

As the students are not paying any attention to the repetitive requests of the authorities and are guilty of breaking university semester and hostel rules by not attending their classes, staying outside the hostel without prior permission of the warden and disturbing the academic decorum of the university, a notice has been issued to the students that if they will not resume their classes and continue their strike, which is illegal and a serious act of indiscipline, their semester may be suspended/ scrapped. 

The authorities once again appeal to the student to complete their degrees first, to become eligible for jobs in fisheries sector, within and outside the state. The university had been and will continue its efforts for getting them placements in near future, but they need to have patience and co-operate with the authorities for exploring the same. The demands of the students, regarding filling up of vacant posts of Fisheries Officers available in the State Fisheries Department, has already been forwarded to the director cum Warden, Fisheries, Punjab for further necessary action.
